he has been a father to her, yes she has been raised by her maternal side of the family, however the main reason for that was that there was no woman in the Sanjay household, and Sanjay was going through a rough phase himself, with court caes and getting convicted
You don't become a father just by contributing your sperm. That is all Sanjay had done for Trishala. She was raised by her aunt and maternal grandparents. So they have a say in her life not Sanjay. Besides didn't Sanjay say he had two beautiful kids?
Sanjay is very sexist. He has said that his sisters should not use the Dutt name since they are married.
So it's okay for him to walk around baring his chest at 52 and ogling at Lisa Hayydon and Lara Dutta in bikinis, but he doesn't want his daughter o be part of all that? If you don't think it's respectful to women to have them wear teensy clothes and be part of sexual situations in films, then don't be part of that culture yourself. That's basically saying that it's okay for other women to be treated like sex kittens and he'll do it himself, as long as it's not a member of HIS family. GROSS. And to those who've pointed out that Bollywood is not a safe place for women, any career is what you make of it. People sleep around in any field to get ahead (I'm not judging them - to each his/her own), but if you don't want to, you don't have to. Furthermore, it isn't as if men aren't being subjected to the infamous "casting couch"; it's one's choice if one wants to get ahead based on sexual favors or on one's own talent. It isn't as if this is the 80s and sleazy producers are calling impressionable small-town girls into their offices for "screen tests." Things are corporatized now, the boys and girls coming into the industry are often knowledgeable and from educated backgrounds. The truth is Sanjay Dutt views women as property, has neglected his daughter, and does not want to be reminded of his age by having his grown child working in films as a lead actress. Jerk! I mean seriously, if family were so important to him, he wouldn't have turned on his sisters, who supported him through thick and thin, during his political phase.

😳 Well, he may sound sexist, but I think he just wants the best for his daughter like any other father! Bollywood is not the most glamorous lifestyle anyway. I think he is just protecting her best interests!
