An Ode To Anuraag Ganguly
Many are born with silver spoons in their mouth, but rarely is one born with a golden heart....
Anurag Ganguly was first shown as an insane man, locked up in a dark, lonely mental asylum for what seemed like an eternity. His wife Taani, who narrated the story, might not have done it with the purpose of making us fall in love with him, but fall we did, and boy, did it hurt.
Unlike a stereotypical madman, he was quiet and peaceful, as he had always been, never wanting to hurt others. As an innocent teenager, he had had no idea of the painful destiny he would be forced to undergo, but he was ready to face it, for his Taani. She was his bestest friend, and the joy of his life. Whenever they fought, he would cry, and so would we. When he fell in love with her, he did the craziest things possible-such as eating paper. They had been married by their parents, for a reason they would never understand, and he had never believed in the marriage, but he did everything a husband should do.From childhood only fate conspired to separate the both of them. After an unfortunate misunderstanding between their families, he was sent to America, to live with Nupur, the spoilt daughter of his father's business associate.
Anurag changed vastly in the eight years he and Taani were separated. From a sensitive boy he grew into a brooding young man, with no time for family, friendship or true love. He had a brief infatuation with Nupur, but his main aim in life remained to bring peace to the soul of Taani's father, his beloved Bimalkaka, by buying their sweet shop. It was when he returned to India to carry out this mission, that he met Taani again, and the old sparks got rekindled. Some things never change-such as the spiritual connect with the one you love-and of course, the taste for kulfis. And who can ever forget the famous moment when Shekhar Ganguly arrived home to see his second child sitting on a rocking chair, his eyes fixed in a cold stare, his hair wet from the rain-uff, hotness.
Many people argued that he broke Taani's heart when he went to Nupur, after an unfortunate failed engagement. Many people argued he also broke Taani's heart when he accused her of separating him and Nupur, and having an affair with Subodh. But hey, who wouldn't want to get their heart broken, if they knew how their love would restore their faith in them? He ran in the rain, scoured the entire railway station, travelled a hundred miles, from one side of the country to another, just to get his Taani back. I don't blame her for forgiving him-especially when he confessed his love for her.
After lots of hardships, when his brother-in-law Ritesh tried to destroy them by trying to marry Taani, he finally married her, in front of the world, and brought the acceptance to the relationship he had cherished truly. But alas! He was destined to lose everything he had....and yet even when he forgot everything, he never forgot his Mishti, for her memories kept the flame inside him alive...

If he was ever proud, he was proud of being Taani's love.
If he was ever greedy, he was greedy for kulfis
If he was ever slothful, it was in doing anything that could put his loved ones in danger
If he was ever wrathful, it was against those who endangered his family
If he was ever gluttonous, it was for his wife' and mother's food
If he was ever jealous, it was because he believed Taani was only his
And if he ever lusted, it was only for his darling Minu Ma'am's eyes....

That went beyond measure
On growing up he might have changed
As far as looks are concerned
And yet in the corner of his heart
The fire of love still burned
It needed to be a little rekindled
And when it finally sprang into it's full form
He loved more
Beyond the human norm
He sacrificed his sanity for his love
And yet he remained sane
For the fire of love still flickered
In the cold ice of his pain....
