Lot of actors in Bollywood use influence to cut their co-star's role. We debated why.

Using manipulation to cut co-actors role is one of the most common tricks being used by the actors recently. In fact even superstars like Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan allegedly have used this trick to maintain their status.
Actor Akshay Kumar is notorious for axing his co-actors roles. It is said that Akki had manipulated producer Vipul Shah to cut Amitabh Bachchan's role in Waqt. He was also reportedly responsible for cutting John Abraham's role in the film Garam Masala.
More recently there was a feud between television actors Apara Mehta and Smriti Irani. According to grapevine Smriti was responsible for axing Apara's role in a serial.
So are these practices common in the industry? Actor Yatin Kareykar, who has a first hand experience of being a victim, blames it on an actor's insecurity.
"It's true that cutting co-actors role is very common in the entertainment industry, be it films or television.
It's a man eat man world out there. As every actor wants to keep his position safe. To maintain that status, they don't mind cutting their co-actors role, be it of villain or a character artist.
If the co-actor is a good actor, then the lead actor does everything to make sure his gets maximum exposure. These insecure actors even interfere with the script."
