Monday - 2/8/10 update by rojapoooo

Starts with 4 ft 1 inch mom of Prakash doing a sky-earth jumping.
" since my son loves your sister, I still want this wedding to go on -
but let your sister get ready to leave for the US of A " Tamizh vetoes
any such notion. Meena pleads "pOgatheenga...pOgatheenga.." Well,
Tamizh serial Lakshanam is not sacrificied - all this is a dream .....
Meena kku thaan. Sada comes, sees darling sis in a trance..... and
gets to know the worry. Just then Prakash asks Tamizh "passport eduthittiya??" Tamizh blinks and Prakash continues "so....you do not know??" Sada calls Praksh on his mobile.....finds out where exactly the couple are standing... tells Kavi to take care of the other end..goes to Praksh "mappillai...inge enna panringa??" The moment of revelation passes. The pOngal is ready... all adjourn to the sannidhi....Meena is all smiles ....thambi udaiyaan padaikku anjaan ???

Janaki and Prema in the temple - ithu vera temple ppa. Prema gives a thaali to the priest "amman pathathile vaichu kudunga" Janaki wants to know " ithu yethu?? and why??" Prema says that all her efforts are getting countered by the other side - "so swamy kku oru savaal vida poren. Intha thaali should be tied by Karthik ..illatta undiyal kku pOgum " (ithu enna vetti savaal??? she means that she will never marry if Karthik refuses to tie the noose??) The priest chants...
KK enters the temple.

Both mother and daughter go to her...cootchi coo.... apologize...... KK sees some people getting ready to carry the thee chatti. Her face becomes pensive. Prema probes and learns that KK wanted to carry it for some parikaaram - uruppadaatha Karthik kku velai appO thaan kidaikkumaam !! - Prema decides to cash this opportunity. KK goes to do the archanai, Prema goes to the thee chatti crowd and asks for one. That lady says that she has one extra. KK comes back, learns
that Prema is stepping in for her, tries to dissuade but Prema talks about "vayathile sumanthaval and nenjile sumanthaval " - to cut a long story short, Prema carries the hot pot, KK melts......leaves. Janaki looks at Prema's burnt palms and fumes...Prema says that all this is jujubi...."think about the jackpot that is waiting..."

Update for Tuesday, August 3, 2010:

Sada is talking with his buddy, an auto driver, about AM and KS becoming friends again, which may put a full stop to his plans to marry Kavitha. He doesn't like the idea of their becoming such good buddies, and going for lunch to KS's house. Friend suggests he drop Kavitha, he says that Kavitha is his wife in his mind, how can he forget her?

KK comes home, tells KS about Prema carrying the fire pot for her and getting burned in her palms, Karthik is overhearing and is touched.

Eka comes to see KS, apologizes for being the person who was responsible for all this enmity, KS says there is nothing to be sorry about, and asks him to join them at lunch. Eka says he will come some other time.

KK is busy checking on the kitchen and its current state of affairs, checks on rasam, gives it to Paati for the final seal of approval, is told that it needs some more salt, tells the kitchen duty person to add salt.

Prema is getting ointment applied on her burns, Janaki asks again if this was necessary, she says that yes, now Karthik will think seriously about her, and should be on his way to her house, and sure enough, he enters! He sees her burns, asks her why she did it, she talks about her inability to do anything more, and so on. He is deeply touched, and leaves. Prema wears the sunglasses he left behind, and says that this is an indication of how deeply he has been touched.

Sara returns home, and is thinking of Shylaja's asking him to talk to his parents about marrying her.

Wednesday - we will tighten Tuesday's mudichu, with Sada to help us.

Update for Wed, Aug 4, 2010:

MK and Palanisamy return with the banana leaves, vethilai etc., Sara is thinking about Shylaja, and Karthi is hanging around. KS is verattufying everyone around. Sara is trying to say something and comes in front of KS, but right then, the AM family enters, so the moment is lost.

(I am stuck in the middle of something in the kitchen, so I will come back to this later, after dinner. Dinner is over, but ... Since I successfully burned my tomato thokku, I will continue with the update instead.)

KS and KK welcome the visitors, everyone troops in and they all sit down in a semi-circle in the chairs that have been arranged there. MK, Sara and Karthi are glowering at the girls, and the girls look very uncomfortable, looking at the guys and then looking elsewhere. Karthi is remembering how he was forced to touch Swathi's feet and he is fuming, she in turn is also uneasy. KK goes to the kitchen and asks Meena to bring out the drinks (coffee?), she comes out, sees Sada and gets terrified, runs back inside and refuses to go outside. AM's wife Meena goes to the kitchen, asks if Meena Jr. got scared when she saw Sada, and was she the one whom Sada treated so badly the other day, and then takes her by the hand, goes to where Sada is sitting, and tells Sada to apologize. He does so, and then she tells Meena Jr. not to fear him any more. KS sees the girls and his sons looking uneasy, Tamil apologizes to MK, but KS makes them all shake hands, MK with TS, Kavitha with Sara and Swathi with Karthi. (Unfortunately, KS has only three sons, so there is no one to shake hands with Vasanthi!).

Everyone has lunch, on the banana leaves, sitting at the dining table (and here I thought they were going to sit on the floor and eat the old fashioned way!) After lunch, they go back to the living room and their previous seats. KK keeps nudging KS to say something, and he tells her to say it. This drama is being observed by Mr. and Mrs. AM, as well as KS's three sons and AM's daughters and Sada. Finally, KK comes forward and asks AM to reconsider their proposal to get their three sons to marry AM's daughters. AM and Meena are quiet, and KS asks them what they think. Finally, Tamil speaks up and she says that it is best that they drop the idea as her sisters are not ready for marriage. She says they need to finish their studies, KS says that he will ensure that they complete their studies, and then she says that her sisters met their sons when they were committing adaavadithanams, so they will only see them as rowdies and not as prospective husbands, so it is best that they leave, and she gets her parents to leave. (She was being unduly harsh and abrupt with them, and in any case, what makes her the spokesperson for her family? She was so much more moderate and well mannered in the beginning, now I don't like her abruptness and rudeness in speaking.) The AM family leaves.

Once home, Meena is still looking glum. Tamil asks her why she is glum, and finally she says that she feels that Tamil need not have been so abrupt with them (just what I have been saying, except that I would use the word "rude" or "ill-mannered"). Tamil is surprised.

Monday - A brief update folks.

Kavitha is crying to mommy " Pakkathile irunthu ava kashta padarathai pakkarathai vida, dhoorathile irunthu ava santhoshamaa irukkirathai pakkren...vu vu vu " (nalla vishyam thaane?? athukku azhuvaanen??) Mommy is happy that Kavitha is also a thyaga sudar like Tamizh. Tamizh's friend Priya succeeds in drilling some sense in to Tamizh - " your noble thoughts of settling your sisters well is great..but when??? few days?/ few years?? So, what is wrong if they do not want to miss this chance??"

Karthik with his friends - celebration time for the job. One friend talks about Prema and her thee chatti prayer. "she is the sole reason and you let her slip away from you!!" Karthik decides to see Prema

KS at his shop. Some one is buying stuff and wants a rebate. KS refuses and that guy goes in search of another shop. Pazhani talks about some guy who is dodging a debt of 65,000 rs. Tamizh lands and expresses her consent for the wedding. On cue, some one delivers the 65,000 rs and the guy who refused to buy goods also comes back saying that there is no other shop like this. KS considers this as a great sagunam. After Tamizh leaves, he decides to personally deliver the message to KK and mommy.

Update for Tuesday, Aug 19, 2010:

Tamil is furious with her mother and Kavitha and says that they can marry as they please. Meena asks her to eat something, and she brushes her off with "en vayiru, en koodaiye adhuvum kaayattum" or something like that. Kavitha tries to apologize to her but she will not listen or accept any apology (she has a big, fat ego, so she will not accept that they also should have been consulted before she took the decision for all of them! Her parents dance to her tune, so she thinks everyone should always dance to her tune!) AM comes in, asks why the rift between the sisters, Tamil says that they want to make their own decisions so she has gone to KS and told him to proceed with the weddings. AM thinks the weddings should be called off because that is making her unhappy, but she insists that it should take place, all because Kavitha accused her of "jealousy".

KS goes home in high spirits, distributes sugar to all, and tells them that Tamil has agreed to the weddings. KK and Palani say that the sons should be consulted, but KS says that they don't know anything, they are always confused and if he tells them to tie the thali, they will do so (wait, wait, there is a nice, big surprise in store for you here!). He is glad his father's words are coming true.

Prema is on her way home and she sees Karthik's friend, who tells her that Karthik got a good job after she carried the thee chatti, and he is on his way to her house to tell her of his love for her. She goes home, happy, sees Karthik sitting beside the sewing machine, goes and asks him why he is here, and did he have any coffee? She goes inside, sees her mother making coffee, tells her to come and listen, and then goes to talk to Karthik. She congratulates him on his new job, he tells her that he wanted to tell her something, she urges him to speak whatever is on his mind, and he tells her how she always cared for him and loved him, but he spurned her and withdrew from her. Now he has been thinking and has come to the conclusion that - she should marry someone else! Janaki and Prema are stunned!

Update for Wednesday, Aug 11, 2010:

Karthik tells Prema to marry someone else, he is not the right person for her. Prema is shocked, says she knows he loves her and he has already told his friends about it, he says he has been a porukki all his life (he still is!), has run behind women (she doesn't think that is a problem), has even gone beyond limits (she says that is in the past), finally he says there is someone else in his heart now, and she says she will tear down that image because she knows he is lying, he even says he has been seeing someone else for the last four years and she is pregnant now (loose morals seem to be the rage in Tamil serials these days!) and finally manages to walk out of their house. Prema and her mother are in shock.

Meena goes to the temple, asks for an archanai thattu, her brother Sada also comes there and they do some mutual greetings, then he also gets an archana thattu. She goes in and says the archana is for her daughter and mappillai, the girl's name is Kavitha and the groom's name is Muthukumar. Sada is stunned because he has been thinking that Kavitha has agreed to marry him, Meena says that they have decided to marry the girls to KS's sons, he tells his sister that he wanted to marry Kavitha, archakar says you guys sort out your differences and then come back, she points out the differences between them, finally she begs him to get rid of the notion from his head and break the sidharu thengai. He is devastated.

Karthik is with his friends, they are scolding him for turning down Prema who loves him so much (I am tired of all these friends who try to run each others' lives), he says that when he went home to tell his father, something happened. KS made the announcement at home, all three sons stood quiet, he made his usual silly comment about how his sons are standing like girls, all shy and heads downcast, and finally MK spoke up and said this marriage won't work. KS is stunned.

Monday 16/8/10

What happened to Vasanthi?? She seems to talk sense !!!! Did Roja miss anything??? Anyways ...... Vasanthi says that Kavitha is educated and will not be a good match for tharkuri Muthu. " Let Kavi marry Sara, I will marry Muthu" Kavitha draws aside Vasanthi and says the following " Look, if both parents are maramandais, then the child will not get a seat in good schools. I want your son to become an IAS officer. I can manage with Muthu and still get our children in to good schools.Pesame you marry Sara, gotcha??" KS listens to all this..happy to see the love between siblings (aama, avar veedu is
Kurukshethram aache !!) and agrees to Kavi's ideas. Swathi looks all beaten - rightfully scared of marrying that tharuthalai Karthik. KS says that karthik's behaviour will not be repeated " he did all that only because his mother was insulted. Any one who cares for
his mother will take care of his wife well, ok?" Swathi is still not sure. KS says that the betrothal will be done tomorrow "we will all come to your house".

Meena visits her bro Sada. Sada is water beating. Meena does some senti talk and invites Sada for the engagement. Sada does a soga BG but agrees. After Meena leaves, Sada's crony asks "enna ?? character maari pOchaa??" Sada says "never. I will go there only
to stop the engagement and the wedding".

Meena is making a list for the function " 3 new saris for the girls, 1 new sari for KS, pOo, pazham blah blah.." All are skeptical to ask Tamizh for funds..decide to borrow from the neighbor. Tamizh lands in an auto (sundai kai sambalathile dhinam auto??? epdimma??)
She has already bought the whole list " Poo, sweets, thengai ellam ithile irukku. 30 perukku sappadu organized, kalai le varum. Have called KS and informed about the nalla neram, akkam pakkathile sOlla vendiyavangalukku sollitten.." Meena is agape....Tamizh goes to her room.....Kavitha hears all this and goes to see Tamizh..Tamizh frowns...

Update for Tuesday, Aug 17, 2010:

Thamizh is angry with Kavitha and shows it. Meena tries to calm her down, poor Kavitha tries to make conversation but she cuts her off, even AM asks her to forgive and forget but she is adamant about not forgetting the one word that was used - poraamai - and says that the word cut her heart in two. She takes out the mehendi cones and gives it to her mother to give the three girls. Vasanthi tries to reason with her and says that she need not take out her anger on all three of them, just the person who hurt her, but Tamil is adamant - all three of you are kaLavaNis, so I will be angry with all of you! Meena consoles them saying that eventually, after they are all married, the truth will come out and her anger will come down once she finds out why all this happened.

Prema is sewing something and hurts her finger. It is bleeding, her mom is worried about the engagement being held for KS's sons the next day, Prema vows to stop the engagement somehow. She plans to go there as an uninvited guest.

Next morning - Tamil has done the kolams and made all the arrangements. The three girls have had their showers and go to get dressed. A lot of teasing and annoying stuff from Vasanthi, and the other two tell her to behave - I am not going into detail here.

KS's house - KK is busy saying her prayers, Meenu comes in, all dressed up in a sari and wants to know how she looks (and she did look very pretty!). KK tells her she looks great, she runs off to show her sari to her father and the three brothers, MK is getting ready, he admires her, she makes him change his shirt to one more appropriate, then she goes to Sara, who is sitting and brooding in a chair. She teases him, but he is in no mood to tease her back, so she leaves, wondering how her poor Anni will deal with this guy. Sara is thoughtful.

Update for Wednesday, Aug 18, 2010:

KS's house - Meenu is teasing Sara and Karthik and checking out their outfits. KK is checking everything, Paati wonders where KS has gone, when he comes in with jewelry boxes. He has bought three necklaces for the three future DILs, identical to the one that KK is wearing. Everyone admires his choice, then they get ready. KS says that he forgot to invite Janaki and Prema, Paati says that there is no need to invite those two, and right then they can be seen entering the house. At the same time, the sanyasi thatha has a vision, he sees them, and he takes a lemon and sticks it on a trishoolam, chanting something. Prema trips on the doorstep, but she picks herself up and they go inside. KS welcomes them, Paati asks them why they are here as Azhaiyaa virundhaali, and KK reminds Paati that Prema carried the thee chatti, only after doing that Karthik has got a job, and KS says they should also come to the engagement, overriding Paati's protests.

As they are taking all the thengai, pazham, poo etc., and stuffing the things into bags, Janaki drops a coconut which breaks open. It has gone bad, promptly Janaki says that is an abasagunam, but KS says that the coconut broke, that is a good sagunam, and Paati says they can buy another one on the way. Everyone leaves, KK comes back and offers a special prayer to the photo of her FIL and then leaves.

AM's house - Sada alights from an auto. He is moody and wants some work to do, but Meena greets him and asks him to come inside and be the thai maman. Eka and Mrs. Eka arrive sans Prakash, who had some important meeting to attend, neighbors arrive, and then the party from KS's house arrive. As Prema and Janaki enter, the sanyasi thatha gets another vision and he places some bilva leaves on a shiva lingam, and Prema is shown as a black and white negative type (is this some kind of symbolism? Does anyone know?). AM introduces his neighbors and the Ekas, then he asks about Janaki and Prema, and before KS can explain, Prema interrupts, saying that they are anaadhais, and KS has given them aadharavu and even buys their monthly groceries, and so on. Finally KS explains that they are Palanisamy's BIL's wife and daughter and like a sister and niece to him (so how does Prema become a murai to Karthik? I don't understand this)

Vasanthi is peeping at Sara from behind a door and smiling to herself. Sara also notices and smiles.
