I think that it happens in movies because it is easy way for movie-makers to quickly portray the character of a person that the audience can relate to. Unfortunately, it does cause a lot of stereotyping and the trend carries on because people can relate to it and find it funny and so the cycle carries on.
I do think that though more and more people do realise that. After all, when we meet someone who is from a different culture than we are, we do not automatically put them in a box; we have met too many different types of people to do that....

this still holds true with actors like Mohanlal, Vikram and Mamoootty in the South Indian league of studs..😆😆

well...nobody in the south refers to them as studs...they are gr8 actors but are never considered studs by anyone. Studs down the south are like...surya, siddharth, Mahesh babu, prabhas, prithviraj, Ram charan, madhavan during his alaipayuthey days, et all.

This is kinda random, but is Nagarjuna an actor from the south?
He is AWESOME! I wish he had more opportunities in Bollywood though...

Anyways, i have noticed at times that the people of the south are often ridiculed (lightly) for their clothes & dance and all that :(

they stereotype all. its not only the south but also parsis, bengalis, gujratis etc. its just that they have become more popular than others.
