Another Big Budget Film Bites The Dust 31 October 2009 |
'Aladin' has opened to, at best, a luke warm response at the box office and it has also been given a thumbs down critically which marks the latest film to have spent tons of money on action, SFX, VFX, cast, cinematography and/or locations while ignoring screenplay, narrative and emotional connects completely. Thankfully it seems that the audience is not being fooled by the promise of great visuals, stunning effects and animation or even star power anymore; they want to see an overall good film and not one which disregards story for the sake of packaging. That would explain the sad fate of films like 'Blue', 'Chandni Chowk To China', 'Kambakht Ishq', 'Luck', 'Drona', 'God Tussi Great Ho', 'Love Story 2050' and a host of other such expensive films with a focus skewed on elements of packaging. Maybe it is time that filmmakers start increasing their budget for the writing department in order to produce better screenplays and scripts. Surely the heart of a film is worth far more than its packaging. |
