Missing - Part I
The pregnancy test was positive and Bani could not believe her eyes.... her thoughts moved from happiness to panic... happy that she was going to be a mother and scared on how Jai Walia would react to the news.
Jai Walia her boyfriend, with whom she had been living with since she met him at a party after a fashion show over a year back. How would he react to the news, he had never spoken about a commitment...they had a very modern relationship, where she continued with her modelling and travelling for shows all over the world and he was busy with his work, running the huge family business. They were not seen in public together too often as they both preferred to keep their private lives private.
He because of his family's position and not wanting any bad publicity and she because she wanted to keep her secret. No one back home must know what she did for a living...it was not acceptable for girls of her class to work and that too as a model. She came from an old , conservative family...who inspite of loosing their fortune still lived in the same era. To spare her mother any more pain she had started working in Mumbai under a new identity one she hoped no one back home new.
She lived a double life...in Mumbai and the fashion circuits she was the successful supermodel Pronita Das and back home she was Bani Dixit, the elder daughter of the Dixit family who was convent educated and went to an exlcusive finishing school in Europe.
It was here in Mumbai that she met Jai Walia at a post show party and they had been instantly attracted to each other. Thus began their relationship...where they met when ever they could and continued to live in their respective worlds when apart.
While Jai was a great companion and a generous lover, he was always very careful about taking protection, he simply did not want any complications in his life. Their relationship had lasted so long because she too did not want any complications in her life. But all that was about to change, because of one careless night, about two months ago. What would he have to say?
" What do you mean you will not have the surgery?" said a worried Jai to his grandfather. He had been trying to reason with the old man for the last to days to go ahead with the by pass surgery as the doctors recommended, but Uday Walia had a mind of his own. He was not willing to listen to any reason.
" I don't want the surgery because you have given me no reason to live...on the other hand if you were married and I had great grand children to look forward to I would have the surgery today" replied a cool Uday Walia.
" Thats blackmail, you know I dont want to get married right now...why are you doing this to me now. Anyways whats the rush, you have the surgery and then we will talk about marraige."
" You are going to be 35 in a few months, its about time you got married...I also have to think of your brother."
" how does that have anything to do with my marraige, he can do what he wants, get married if he wants...why do I have to get married for that?" he tried again. He knew he would do anything for his grandfather. After his parents death, it was his grandfather who had come back from his retirement and looked after them not only that he also went back to work so that the boys got their legacy intact. Jai could never repay him for what he did for them...but marraige , that to at this point was just not possible.
" Jai I dont want to discuss this any further , we will talk about my surgery only after you agree to marry Roshni."
" So you will have the surgery, if I agree to marry Roshni?" he said accepting the inevitable, not looking forward to breaking this news to Pronita.
" Yes!"
