I thought Soumen was the only one in SRGMP who held his own with Shankar to a great extent in the last SRGMP episode. They meshed very well!

Among all the mentors, the only one who actually sings and explains to contestants while giving grades is of course, Shankar. I don't see any of the other mentors singing to explain where the contestants went wrong. How can this be called mentoring? Or are they too scared to be caught singing off-key?

Since Shankar is thorough with sur taal so he understands immediately kaha pancham galat laga kaha dhaivat, baki to kaun hai waha: Aadesh : he can't point out ,he is not a singer himself, and regards chor and Himesh they need training themselves. You would agree that it is not possible to identify solfege swara instantly unless you sing on regular basis.

Absolutely. Look at the way he was appreciating Vaishali for singing a song straightaway from 'pa' without any mistake. I wish there would be more discussions like this on SRGMP.

Last year I was in India and watching a Kannada music show in which SPB was a judge along with someone. He was spending so much time on each contestant pointing out mistakes or appreciating the good points. He was making contestants sing entire songs until they got it right. Truly a music show! Alas, these kinds of shows only find a niche viewership.

puniji, Is the program, "Yede thumbi haaduvenu". True, I like it as well. Good mentoring by SPB. Also I am impressed with the way SPB talks kannda so fluently.

Coming back to Shankar, he one my favorite male singers. The only one who is mentoring contestants well.... only reason I watch SRGMP Is his wife also a singer??
