As many said here---and I fully agree with them---the reason for less participation from South is purely commercial. The channels, after all, are commercial organizations in entertainment business, and reality shows are their products. They are not organizations working for social causes. Like any product company, they need to spend less on making their products and need to earn more out of them. Otherwise they won't survive in today's fiercely competitive entertainment industry.

The channels, I am sure, will try for equal participation from all zones, if that can get them better net revenue. But that is not a reality. To get say 40 shortlisted candidates meeting their requirements, the channel has to audition 1000s of singers. It is much easier for the channels to get 1000 singers interested in participation from North that from south for the obvious reason. Holding audition in 1or 2 major cities in North can bring 1000s of hopefuls but to do the same in South, the channel has to hold auditions in all major cities in South (and still they may get so many interested) So more cost of production for them. And after doing all this they still will have less viewer ship from South and hence less revenue (sms votes). So why would they go out of the way to do something that is not in their commercial interest?

roy saab: you must have noticed it is not one female singer doing the taan, there are atleast two, it has 2 diff characters and voice textures evident even in series of fast taan, I think ARR has used multi track recording technique then punched then thogether.

expert comments please.

This wont work in hindi movies.. simply beacause hindi music is more melodic and this is more like regioanal style than something that can be called good music.. It's like bhangra, you can dance to it but you cant call it melodic....or breathless which you can look at with awe but may not call it good music.....its just that south indians have so much of music that you cant help getting some good ones into hindi... similar to what Salil da did with bangla folk..... many of them were just used in bollywood...( on another note now is that plagiarism?)

Dear qwerty music is very subjective, something which is good for me may not be same for you and vice versa.
Few people realise that Salil composed music for around 75 Hindi Films, over 40 Bengali Films, 23 Malayalam Films and several other films in Tamil,Telugu,Gujarati,Marathi,Assameese,Oriya etc. No other Indian composer comes even close. ......
Salil had this amazing ability to compose background music for films. His understanding of situations, the story line and the emotions was unsurpassed. He had always composed the background music for his own films in every language. However, other film producers and directors found his ability to compose background music very impressive. It all started when Bimal Roy asked Salil to compose part of the background music for his legendary film "Devdas" when Sachin Dev Burman was the music director of the film. Later B.R.Chopra asked Salil to compose the background music for "Qaanoon" while Ravi was his regular music director. While Qaanoon was a songless film, its remembered for its phenomenal background music. Since then Salil had composed the background music for a large number of Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil films and also for quite a few Documentary films for the Films Division of India.

Salil da's few compositions were essentially for Hindi films only and mostly for Bengali, also he gave music in Tamil, if the same person is doing it this is not plagiarism. Ilaya Raja took neele neele ambar pe from Kalyan-Anand ji and made a tamil version of it, but took permission , hence not plagiarism.

@bold - ID, music is not subjective.. look at some songs that become undisputably hit.. Music is based on good arithmetic (so consistent) and one can always make out good from bad music... and I am not talking about it being in sur.or out..
sometimes people like music which others dont like or understand, has more to do with nostalgia and memories than good music.. but again thats my opinion...
also i didnt know that SC's music was his own composition.. i thought it was bangla folk music and he just adapted it both in hindi and bengali movies..
