Of course South indians make it big.. but mostly it has to be south indians who are from Delhi or mumbai...like shankar mahadevan, kavita krishnamurthy, kay kay....etc.. everyone who come to mumbai cease to be where they came from in the literal sense... 😊
Accent is all to a good voice.. u cant have good voice with an accent it doent work.. like it happened with SPB and Hariharan...etc...

But what when people like Udit Narayan come over to South Indian music??? 😆 His accent is simply worst.. But must say about Shreya, she doesnt have this accent problem.. Though she is a Bengali, she sings so perfectly in Tamil 👏 I myself was surprised listening to her... I agree, those people who feel that they cannot do justice to the song due to their accent shouldn't attempt the song... They should stay with what they are comfortable with and others who can lend their voice, should just go ahead...

The song is hummable and is beautiful composition but I feel the southindian touch is too prominent. Listen to Yesudas and you'll know for sure what I'm trying to say here.

No doubt most southindian singers are classically trained and are pretty good singers. Still, kanon ko kuchh missing sa lagta hai when you listen to them. But accents etc are fixable if one has the zeal.
Exceptions are every where. We do have Kavita Krishnamurthy whose singing does not have any accent but I find her voice too shrilly and sharp at times.
My favorite southindian singer is Hemchandra....despite his accent etc. I just love his voice😊
Why South is poorly represented - because it's not good for TRPs and sms voting as that region does not even support their own when it comes to a hindi program. Bad investment for a hindi channel.

I agree with all ur points.👏👏 Especially the highlighted ones. 😃

Udit going to South india.. i dont think South indians care much for accent... as long as they get some good voice.. the problem here is bollywood has a lot of urdu and some words become veri evident.. like when Hariharan sang tu hi re! it was veri evident accent... regarding shreya.. i dont think she is a bengali from west bengal.. i am sure she has grown up in delhi or mumbai or some other hindi speaking state....
All this is not so important as you said if people can take up the right accent.. Lata mangeshgar had the typical marathi speaking hindi accent.. which is so obvious but when she sings.. she sounds so blending professional...😊

Unless some one starts off he can't find fault in dicton urdu etc, and SRGM is the right place to show case talent, like if Hemachandra wants to make it big in Bollywood he can take classes in urdu and make his diction perfect (like Lata ji did as pointed out).

But they should participate, any day I will prefer a sureela poor diction singer over a besura.

I think Hemu did sing a Hindi sing along with Nihira and others in Aekla (Aadesh )

ID, People like you and me would prefer that.. But thr are many who think that diction is more important than the besuras... Also, SRGMP is thinking more on business perspective.. Who really cares if the actual talent is coming out or not.. In the rival reality show, they have brought in a Bengali contestant representing Tamil Nadu 😆 Its funny, dont they really have talented singers in Tamil Nadu???? They dont want to invest money.. Hemu got his votes from music lovers and south was not responsible for him to come in top 3..

Well, who really cares about talent these days?? Its all business.. Unless the voting pattern is there along with channel house domination, the real talent can never come out of any reality show...

He is literally a joke here 😆 Esp for one song he sang, people make fun of him and infact there was a debate saying if there are less talented singers in TN, that they have brought someone like him to sing a song with wrong diction...

The more problem is, most of the people in TN focus towards classical and pursue their career as a classical singer.. Yes they do sing for films also, but their main focus is classical and no one can deny this.. I 100% prefer listening to classical rather than film music.. Its not that I dont listen, but my house is filled with cassettes and CDs of carnatic classical and Hindustani instrumentals...

@ Anuradha

Here I will tel you some thing interesting: Udit was used a lot by ARR, now ARR has done some weird sound experiments like Lata singing for Preity (jiya jale ) and he recieved flac for this, regards Udit there was so much of controversy in Tamil music industry that ARR decided not to use his vocie any more.

If only votes matter then SRGMP would not have gone to places like Goa(dont know how many votes its contestant will get), Pakistan(nobody votes from there) or Singapore. They could not find any singer from South who were fitting their requirement. Last year they gave chance to Abhijeet Kosambi, he was classically trained singer but failed to impress over all.
do you actually feel these auditions are genuine and not a farce.........??

PS: Both sur and feel are important and expertise over urdu diction also is important (agree here) but former is more important than later or else how do you explain success of Yesuda in Hindi singing, I remember Ravindra Jain on a interview on Doordarshan said if he ever gets his eyes back he would like to see Yesuda first.
