I watched this reel and ruminated on what this man said quite a bit because something about it just bothered me and I wasn’t quite able to articulate what it was for a while and then I saw it again after a while and that’s when it clicked.
Sanatana Dharma has always been an advocate of questioning - we have the Bhagavad Geeta to prove for that. We have various books with Shiv Parvati Samvad amongst others as well where Parvati Maa is essentially stepping in for us and asking Mahadev all these questions regarding the universe, karma and everything possible.
What irked me about this reel was the comparison of something that you claim to talk about in the highest regard - Bhakti - and then bring in something that is politically motivated in between that and use Andhbhakti as a means to look down upon people. I don’t know this man nor do I claim to care enough about him to go through his profile to find out which party he supports in India or abroad if he lives somewhere else. But to me, if you claim to be a devout person who respects Bhakti as the highest spiritual power… the you don’t loosely associate it with a mortal irrespective of your political affiliation and beliefs since you know that’s not a term one uses loosely.
That’s the term that one associates when there’s a certain religious authority/belief system etc. that is exploiting their followers, those who have faith in them. Also, and this is perhaps a thing that I believe one should take into account when one is mixing politics with faith… fine, if you wanna go down this route - then why not tag Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Jews, Zoroastrians and any other religious group, sect or community that exists as a faith in India. Must only a Hindu question their beliefs be it in the divine or the political realm? If politics is the primary motive of such a reel, then why exclude other faiths and not ask them to think for themselves and decide, after all all decisions regarding their country affect them regardless of their religious identity and beliefs since they’re citizens of the same.
If this is purely faith based, then why include politics in it and not just say question everything before you believe in it, including godmen, traditions, practices and rituals?
Don’t use faith for your agenda when it comes to your political beliefs and don’t look at faith with a political lens either as neither mixes with each other much like oil and water.
