Not the first time. He did the profit sharing thing during bajirao and padmavaat too. He had a backend deal with Bhansali and Viacom to have a share in profits during padmavaat. So, ultimately he made the most money from the film out of the 3 leads and here he made hundreds of crores too

I don’t mind the franchise. Just hope it’s not ruined and lives up to the standards set.

Didn’t know this but it shows he’s got a good head for business and knows what he’s doing when he’s going for such deals with only selective movies.

Given the backlash he’s facing with this one from a particular lobby and shown guts to headline this movie as the main lead when he has to be aware what it means for him going forward, this was a smart decision. This kinda explains the way the industry has been behaving even more. They know this isn’t just him delivering a franchise that’s going to go down in history as a milestone in his career and Indian Cinema’s overall, but him laughing his way to the bank after his low phase and at a time when legacy movie production houses are struggling.
