I’m sure her political affiliation is a factor but I believe the sponsors are also aware that regardless of her political affiliation, the show is definitely a profitable investment.

Kyunki is a legacy show regardless of what people think and say about it. People still associate Tulsi with Smriti and vice verse. They knew that Amar was also being brought back as were as many OG actors as possible.

Kyunki at the height of its popularity was commanding nearly 2.5 lakh per 10 seconds of ad space which was unheard of before for a television serial. Cricket events particularly World Cup or Test Matches especially those with India - Pakistan, yes, for the first screening of a popular movie being aired on a TV channel like say the TV premiere of Gadar or Lagaan which I believe released in the era, award shows like Filmfare, yes; but not for serials. The first show that broke the glass ceiling was KBC, but it can’t be called a serial by any definition and was the TV debut of Amitabh Bachchan, so it was in a league of it’s own too. But in terms of TV serials, Kyunki was the first one to make that kinda money even back then.

They know Kyunki as a brand still has insane recall value and influence on the market. With the OGs being back on the show they knew it would be a profitable business move regardless of Smriti’s political affiliation.

Kangana is from the same party, now even an MP, but her movies don’t get the kind of backing despite that because movies are riskier in comparison. Despite her talent, there’s no guarantee she’ll get a hit. There’s no recall value, no way to gauge market interest or impact before the release and the movie can get lost if someone releases a movie in the same window or the same day which takes off. Like for example, Dhurandhar has been such a surprise hit that many people didn’t know what hit them. Release dates have been pushed back, other movies that released around the same time are either struggling like Avatar or disappeared like Kapil Sharma’s movie without anyone even caring or noticing. This despite the fact that Dhurandhar didn’t even have a Pan India release in any other language! It was only released in Hindi!

Part 2 is Pan India and will clash with Toxic but no one even understands what that movie is about yet. And it will be hard for it to retain the hold it expects thanks to the anticipation for part 2 being really high.

Something similar can happen to Kangana as well. But they know with Kyunki there is no such risk. So even though she’s not actively a minister currently, purely from a business standpoint too it makes sense to sponsor Kyunki. These contracts can be renewed and renegotiated in the future as and when required per the findings of the sponsors at the time too.
