It’s between Ranbir in Animal or Ranbir in Animal. I said what I said.
Ranbir is winning it for Animal. Unfortunately, movies and actor performances have changed since the last time SRK won for My Name is Khan. I have been an SRK fan since the age of 6 and love watching him to bits. But sadly, the performances of Ranbir (Animal), Ranveer (RARKPK) and Vicky (Sam Bahadur), Pankaj Tripathi (OMG2) are far far superior than what SRK delivers.
However, if box office collections determine awards then SRK will get it for Jawan. But the audience is smart these days. Going for the following:
Best Film: 12th Fail
Best Director: Vinod Chopra 12th Fail
Best Actor: Ranbir Kapoor (Animal) or Vikrant Massey (12th Fail)
Best Actress: Rani Mukerjee (Chatterjee vs Norway) or Kiara Advani (SPKK)
Best Supporting Actor: Vicky Kaushal (Dunki) or Tota Roy Chowdhury (RARKPK)
Best Supporting Actress: Dimple Kapadia (Tu Jhooti Main Makkar)
Best Music Director: AR Rahman (Pippa) or Animal (Multiple composers)
Best Background Score: Animal
Best Playback Singer Male : Bhupinder Babbal (Arjan Velly - Animal) or Sonu Nigam (Ro Lain De- RARKPK/ Papa Meri Jaan- Animal) [[[ Arijit does not deserve it this year but will probably win it for Ve Kamleya)]]]
Best Playback Singer Female: Shreya Ghoshal (Vaishnav Jan to - Gandhi Godse) or Shilpa Rao (Chaleya-Jawan). Personally Shreya should win for Gandhi Godse. Its an insanely beautiful rendition. Cant stop listening to it.
Actor in a Negative Role: Jaya Bachchan or Bobby Deol or Vijay Sethupati
Best Choreography: Dhindora Baaje Re (RARKPK)

I'm sure he'll get a nomination. He didn't win for the first one so I wonder if he could possibly win again. But I know Gadar has never been very popular in the industry as for both films, Sunny, Amisha, and others mentioned how nobody believed in their films and were expecting them to flop so I don't think there's a lot of love at Filmfare for Sunny. Amisha also said that she doesn't believe in the awards because people who refuse to play the game, like Aamir, Sunny, Ajay, etc. are never awarded.

I understand some awards never make sense. I still dont get how Ranbir got Best Actor for Sanju over Ranveer for Padmavat. It wasnt even a contest that year. or Pritam best music for Ludo. But in spite of Aamir openly saying he doesnt believe and will never attend, he was given awards for Taare Zameen Par and Dangal. I think the revival of multplexes, OTT diversity, we have seen a lot of 'popular' , 'masala' 'entertaining' movies doing great commercially. It will be interesting to see if these are also awarded in the 'Best' categories at award shows. There is nothing Award winning about 'Pathaan', 'Gadar 2', 'Jawan', according to me (Maybe Action and VFX categories, thats it).

I agree, Ranveer should have won that year for Padmavaat easily. That was a steal.
I think Aamir's issue is that he lost for Rangeela which he really thought he would win, and after that, he made his vow to never attend awards. As you said, he's won several times but for Best Actor, he's only won for Raja Hindustani, Lagaan, and Dangal. He's got the Critics Award for Rang De Bastani and and then lots of awards for Best Film and Best Director so his number of Filmfare Awards is only long because of his directing and producing.
For Best Actor, he's only won 3 times which could be considered low for an actor of his stature. Think of the fact that Alia has 4 in comparison.

True that. But I feel our sensibilities as an audience have changed. OTT, Netflix, Prime etc have given a larger audience exposure to worldwide cinema and how we judge Acting performances has changed considerably. Aamir lost the Rangeela Best Actor to Shahrukh for DDLJ. 30 years back we wouldn't have argued that Aamir deserved it more but today I agree that Aamir was better as an Actor. We have learned to isolate the movie from the acting performances. 2006 too now I agree he deserved it for RDB over Hrithik for Dhoom 2.
A comparison between Alia and Aamir i think isn't a fair comparison. 'Best' and 'Awards' are comparisons so it's a function of the competition. Aamir was competing with SRK, Ajay Devgan, Hrithik at the peaks of their careers. Amitabh's career best performances like Black, Paa, Pink, Piku have come in the last 2 decades.
Alia's competition have been Deepika and Katrina who are glamor queens and not great actors. Deepika has a few like Piku, Bajirao Mastani but not the consistency of Rani Mukerjee or Vidya Balan. I think Alia is an amazing actor but the competition is low. So Aamir's 3 to Alia's 4 doesn't paint the correct picture. I really hope Kiara gets more meaty roles because she's a fantastic actress.
P.S. I know we instinctively consider Filmfare the most important awards but over the last 10-15 years, IIFA has been fairer and more accurate in the awards they've given out

Aamir's role may have required more acting but it's SRK's Raj that was not only career defining but also become one of the most iconic roles in Hindi cinema. That's not just DDLJ as a film but also SRK's Raj. His character has been endlessly quoted, parodied, and inspired over the years. I've never seen Aamir's Munna have that pop culture appeal in comparison so it can be argued that SRK's win was ultimately the better one with more longevity. I don't think Hrithik deserved it for Dhoom 2 either.
It's true that Aamir and Alia are not contemporaries and in very different states of their careers but it's still disconcerting to see her more awarded than him, Sridevi, Rekha, or other legendary actors. And that's not just for Filmfare but IIFA as well where she's also got the most awards compared to every other actress. Even if her contemporaries are not matching up (I noticed Parineeti had no IIFA nominations for Best Actress), the fact remains that there are still veteran actresses working and getting nominated but losing.
I checked the IIFA Best Actress winners and it's mostly the same as Filmfare except the following:
Tabu won for Chandni Bar over Kajol in K3G
Rani won for KANK over Kajol in Fanaa
Anushka won for Band Baaja Baaraat over Kajol in My Name is Khan
Deepika won for Chennai Express over Deepika in Ram-Leela
Sridevi won for Mom over Vidya in Tumhari Sulu
2021-22 were combined so Taapsee never won for Thappad as Kriti's Mimi was also up the same year and won
The biggest trend is that IIFA does not like Kajol. She's never won and wasn't even nominated for My Name is Khan. So all her Filmfare wins go to someone else in IIFA. I'm actually fine with all of these winners instead although Deepika was better in Ram-Leela and I think Taapsee was better than Kriti.
Some IIFA nominations I was glad to see which were not recognized by Filmfare were Sonali in Sarfarosh, Preity in Dil Chahta Hai, and Shilpa in Dhadkan. But there are weird snubs like no nominations for Preity in Veer-Zaara, Anushka in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and NH10, Parineeti in Ishaqzaade or anything else for that matter, Aishwarya in Sarbjit and Raincoat, Sonam in Raanjhanaa, Vidya in Shakuntala Devi, etc. The weirdest nomination was Kareena for Aitraaz. She's barely a presence in that. Meanwhile, there are no female winners for the IIFA Best Negative Performance category.

You are very right. Aamir having only 3 BA awards doesn't sit right. And maybe that's where the biases of voters and juries comes in. Alia also works for the biggest banners in the industry which helps her get the traction she needs to win the awards. (I'm not saying she didnt deserve even any one of her BA awards, she deserved all). And that's why i am super keen on seeing what happens this year because I actually feel Rani deserves to win it this year and its not even marginal. She was the best by a distance.
Really appreciate that you went into a lot of detail with IIFA. I meant I agreed more with the IIFA awards than the Filmfare awards and I dont mean IIFA is 100% accurate in that just better than Filmfare. Rani and Kajol in 2006 for KANK and Fanaa resp were great but Kareena was much better in Omkara than both I think but the size of her role could have been an issue. So its very subjective. What are your predictions for this year. I've gone for the below:
Best Film: 12th Fail
Best Director: Vinod Chopra 12th Fail
Best Actor: Ranbir Kapoor (Animal) or Vicky Kaushal (Sam Bahadur)
Best Actress: Rani Mukerjee (Chatterjee vs Norway) or Kiara Advani (SPKK)
Best Supporting Actor: Vicky Kaushal (Dunki) or Tota Roy Chowdhury (RARKPK)
Best Supporting Actress: Dimple Kapadia (Tu Jhooti Main Makkar)
Best Music Director: AR Rahman (Pippa) or Animal
Best Background Score: Animal
Best Playback Singer Male : Bhupinder Babbal (Arjan Velly - Animal) or Sonu Nigam (Ro Lain De- RARKPK/ Papa Meri Jaan- Animal) {{ Arijit does not deserve it this year but will probably win it for Ve Kamleya)}}}
Best Playback Singer Female: Shreya Ghoshal (Vaishnav Jan to - Gandhi Godse) or Shilpa Rao (Chaleya-Jawan) or Shreya Ghoshal (Tum Kya Mile-RARKPK).

I agree, which banners you are representing is also responsible for boosting you to a win. This is why Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, Ajay Devgan, Ameesha Patel, Urmila Matondkar, Shilpa Shetty, etc. have all faced struggles because they were not signed with the major banners and all have talked about the awards being fixed or a lack of recognition.
I would need to look at the other category winners for IIFA but to me, they're not that different from the Filmfare Winners, at least in the Best Actress category. The lack of Kajol bias is the main factor here and I do think she deserved some awards although not as many as she got from Filmfare.
My predictions for the acting categories are:
Best Film: Dunki
Best Director: ????
Best Actor: Shah Rukh Khan (Dunki or Jawan) or Ranveer Singh (RARKPK)
Best Actress: Rani Mukerji (Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway)
Best Supporting Actor: Vicky Kaushal (Dunki) or Tota Roy Chowdhury (RARKPK)
Best Supporting Actress: Dimple Kapadia (Pathaan) or Deepika Padukone (Jawan) or Shabana Azmi (RARKPK)
Actor in a Negative Role: Jaya Bachchan (unless she is eligible for Best Supporting Actress instead) or Bobby Deol
Best Actor (Critics): Vicky Kaushal (Sam Bahadur)
Best Actress (Critics): ??? maybe Rani again
