That shall be Stumps on Day 1. 15 wickets on Day 1. The Test has moved ahead at the rate of knots on the opening day itself. Bangladesh were bowled out for 172 earlier in the day, and the Blackcaps have lost 5 wickets in reply. Mushfiqur Rahim was out obstructing the field (according to the law) and that led to a collapse which the hosts could never recover from. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals as the NZ spinners made life difficult for the Bangladesh batters. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul didn't disappoint the home fans either as they took five quick wickets in reply. None of the batters have looked comfortable in such testing conditions. Because stumps were called early today due to bad light, we'll have an early start tomorrow, but the forecast for Day 2 doesn't look promising with some rain on the cards. Hopefully it stays away and we get more cricket action.

Phew. A whirlwind day that saw 15 wickets tumble. Yes, 15 wickets in less than 80 overs. The pitch offered assistance to the spinners throughout and NZ were simply not able to cope with what the Bangladesh spinners threw at them. Conway left a ball that did not turn. Latham under-edged a ball that kept low. Nicholls' patience ran out. Blundell went back to a ball he could have been forward to, and Williamson was done in by an absolute stunner.

Right. That will be that from us for today. An action-packed day, and based on the evidence accrued over around six hours of cricket, expect day two to be just as eventful. Do join us as Bangladesh look to fashion a first-innings lead, and New Zealand try to cut down the deficit (and take a lead).

Cam says: "As a Kiwi watching this game, its not right to scapegoat individuals on this performance. Bangladesh are giving us a taste of the medicine we had served them the entire last decade."

Mustafa Moudi with a fun fact: "Kane Williamson came into this Test with a century each in his last four Tests. Unfortunately that streak could be broken before he could match Kallis, Gambhir and Mohammad Yousuf's record of scoring a Ton in five consecutive Tests."

Here's Scott on the home advantage factor: "You can't blame home advantage for the current scorecard. Some of the wickets yesterday, by both teams, was just atrocious decision making plus good bowling. If we (NZ) produce green seamers from day 1 then South East Asian countries have every right to have pitches that turn from day 1, the only thing I don't like in a pitch is uneven bounce and there was not too much of that yesterday. "

It continues to rain. May have gotten a tad heavier from when I last checked. The run-ups have been covered as well. Mirpur is dark and gloomy.
