The second generation story ended with Imlie^2 and Atharva putting infant Imlie^3 on a raft with five-year-old Kairi to look after her, and waiting to get shot by Anu. Anu called someone to say that she was sending them two children to abuse. All of the extended family, who had lost their home to an earthquake, had heart attacks and died when they heard the news.
How can Imlie^3 sing after nearly dying of respiratory problems as an infant, or after spending the night in the rain? No idea.
The third generation story is set in a bucolic village called Purava'iyā.

Usually, it's Sonali telling her mother Alaka to calm down, don't embarrass the one you can blackmail, revenge is a dish best served cold, etc. Alaka only oils Sonali's hair and tells her to keep an eye on her husband Amrit's suspicious behaviour like Sonali's father.
The first time Alaka complained on screen that Gattu's mother had stolen her husband, Gattu said that his father went looking for a woman who would love and respect him because Alaka didn't. More recently, Gattu has made Alaka's feelings his excuse not to re-hire Imlie^3 as chef and not to tell the family that he married a bar singer.

I don't think Sonali hates Gattu. She competes with him, but she doesn't resent his existence as Alaka does. Sonali is not trying to make Gattu miserable. She only turns his mistakes into her opportunities. Sonali wants success in business, not free money.
Dhanaraj, Sonali's full brother and Gattu's half-brother, was close with Gattu. Flashbacks tell us how Dhanaraj and Kairi died when a truck plowed into their car, just before Ashu was born. Pallo told Imlie^3 that the rich boy's family took him to the hospital and left Kairi to die. However, this hasn't been confirmed by the Chaudharys, who only refer to Kairi as "that poor girl" who "gobbled up" Dhanaraj.
Gattu hasn't acknowledged that Dhanaraj's suicide note, which was handed to Gattu at the cremation, isn't the same suicide note that Gattu has now. I wrote a fan fiction that explains how this is possible.

Despite Annapurna shutting the door in Dhanaraj's face when he showed up married to Kairi, none of the Chaudharys express concern that Gattu will one day kick Alaka and Sonali out of the house.

Amrit chases Imlie^3 because she's irresistible. Gattu is also captivated by her, but he hates all poor people, just as Annapurna taught him by example. In my fan fiction, Annapurna isn't mean.
