These are 2 different aspects, unlike others, cousins or siblings marriage is not allowed, but 2 people of different gotra can marry while leaving 2 gotra of maternal and paternal side parents and grandparents(not sure which side, I forgot), because they are considered as brothers/sisters.

Isliye, log relatives ko consult krna prefer krte hain, so that they can be sure of the background of the person and that the person is from different gotra.

Baaki iske baare me mujhe zyada nahi pata.
