Just recently watched this beautiful movie. Layered story & screenplay ably backed up by one of the best soundtracks ever.
The last scene happens to be one of the most ironical and heartbreaking endings ever. It took me some time to get over it!

Thanks for the compliment. ☺️But you give me too much credit. My tastes are very masala-ish and depends very much on the actors. I haven't seen the movie yet. Can't drum up enthusiasm for Chitrangada or Shiney.
This movie shouldn't be watched for it's actors (but if U dislike the actors it might be hard to watch) rather for it's story and execution
It was released in 2003 , don't think this would've been allowed the next year as Congress came back to power or even before 1996 (Even Gaddar wouldn't have been allowed)
Set in late the 60s and thru the 70s, it's set in the backdrop of Energency, also mentions Indira's shenanigans during emergency (although that's not the main plot)
