Victims r dying without getting justice n here everyone is interested which celeb kid is consuming which drug. Let them ruin their life n health why should we care.

Cops are raiding n dealing with drug rackets n raiding on common ppl also not just celebs .drugs also one of the factor contributing to d crimes murder , rape , domestic violence n other injustices . When celebs are involved , media focus on them also as they influencing society , some even part of drug rackets .

So what exactly did the war on drugs achieve?

Preaching to the choir by quoting you. 😆

The war on drugs achieved exactly what white westerners wanted to achieve. It trapped more people of color in the prison industrial complex. It decimated economies in other countries and put them in control of the drug mafia.

Coca-Cola came from coca leaves. Coke literally had coke in it. Native South Americans would chew coca leaves for energy while working in fields. There was robust legal trade. War on drugs killed that legal trade and now those countries are overrun by drug mafia illegally running cocaine.

Similarly, opium was grown from Persia to Punjab and almost everyone smoked it. When you see old grannies and grandpa with a hookah in period films - it used to be opium. War on drugs killed that legal trade and now terrorists grow and sell opium to fund nefarious activities.

Marijuana/Hemp is indigenous to a large part of India. Many people smoked it recreationally. But a majority of hemp usage was for making ropes, fabrics, food, etc. It was a sustainable cash crop for many communities. War on drugs killed that legal trade and left with many villages without a source of livelihood. The control of marijuana went from responsible Indian vilagers into the hands of Israeli, Russian, and Nigerian mafia.

Orange is the New Black did a phenomenal job showing how a sweet innocent girl like Daya was turned into a drug addict and distributor by the very justice system that claims to protect people from drugs.

I meant to quote Nathu before and ended up quoting you. Sorry. Decided against redoing because we are all stuck in our positions and not convincing anyone.

And yeah. I agree. It started as economic strategy.

U r mistaken..people want only rights..give a damn about duties..everywhere u hear people talking about fundamental rights, human rights, right to this, right to that..not even a mention of duties as a citizen or even as a human

There is poison all around you. Bleach, Baygon, etc are poisonous and every year thousands of people attempt suicide by consuming a household chemical or pesticide. Many die. Yet these everyday items are not banned or regulated. Instead, they come with a warning and instructions on what to do in case of ingestion.

Do people zone out or act like zombies after consuming those things in parties?

If in a country of billions there is a very small percentage who doesn't follow laws it doesn't mean a system is not working. It means those people r unwilling to follow the system. It works for the majority

People do not seem to know the difference between decriminalization and legalization. A drug can be illegal and decriminalized at the same time. What that means is you still cannot commercially sell a drug. But consuming it or sharing it with friends is not prosecutable by law. You cannot be concerned about addiction and overdose and be against decriminalization at the same time.

Most drug addicts and their families do not seek help because of the stigma and illegal nature of drugs. People lie, hide, bury, or deny drug issues. Decriminalization makes it easier for people to admit to drug issues without fear of arrests or harassment. It also helps to destigmatize drugs and reduce denial.

When you criminalize drug use it wastes a lot of law enforcement resources on petty drug busts versus actually solving crime. Cops usually target rich and affluent folks because they can either get a big bribe or get a lot of attention for drug busting. Meanwhile, there are rural areas with actual drug crisis which no one pays attention to because there is no money or fame in busting a poor laborer suffering addiction.

People are claiming things like rape, murder, etc as a reason to criminalize. That's because the media sensationalizes issues when drugs or alcohol are involved. Most crime is committed by sober people. Most rape isn't at raves or parties with strangers but usually by someone known to the victim close to home often doing the most mundane activities like going to school or work. If only our criminal justice system was actually invested in preventing, investigating, and prosecuting these actual crimes than petty issues like a celeb kid using some drugs.

I reiterate

- Legalize THC and Hallucinogens

- Decriminalize hard drug usage

- Prosecute hard drug syndicates

- Charge DUI/OWI just as with alcohol

- Charge crime just as any other crime and drop usage of influence as criminal defense

Focus on real crime than people having a good time

Get what u r saying here..

But just one question..suppose it's decriminalized..like illegal to sell but not unlawful to consume, how does that work? Genuinely trying to understand.

Isn't it possible that sellers would sell it in small proportions and easily declare its for self consumption if caught?

If decriminalized people may just consume openly and not even realize they need help with their addiction..that's another thing..same as alcohol and can be taken care of. But how many would actually come out n admit addiction? How is the situation in US where it's legal
