People do not seem to know the difference between decriminalization and legalization. A drug can be illegal and decriminalized at the same time. What that means is you still cannot commercially sell a drug. But consuming it or sharing it with friends is not prosecutable by law. You cannot be concerned about addiction and overdose and be against decriminalization at the same time.

Most drug addicts and their families do not seek help because of the stigma and illegal nature of drugs. People lie, hide, bury, or deny drug issues. Decriminalization makes it easier for people to admit to drug issues without fear of arrests or harassment. It also helps to destigmatize drugs and reduce denial.

When you criminalize drug use it wastes a lot of law enforcement resources on petty drug busts versus actually solving crime. Cops usually target rich and affluent folks because they can either get a big bribe or get a lot of attention for drug busting. Meanwhile, there are rural areas with actual drug crisis which no one pays attention to because there is no money or fame in busting a poor laborer suffering addiction.

People are claiming things like rape, murder, etc as a reason to criminalize. That's because the media sensationalizes issues when drugs or alcohol are involved. Most crime is committed by sober people. Most rape isn't at raves or parties with strangers but usually by someone known to the victim close to home often doing the most mundane activities like going to school or work. If only our criminal justice system was actually invested in preventing, investigating, and prosecuting these actual crimes than petty issues like a celeb kid using some drugs.

I reiterate

- Legalize THC and Hallucinogens

- Decriminalize hard drug usage

- Prosecute hard drug syndicates

- Charge DUI/OWI just as with alcohol

- Charge crime just as any other crime and drop usage of influence as criminal defense

Focus on real crime than people having a good time

None said raiding BW parties was prevention. Raids happening everywhere where police suspect drugs can be used. but we read, post & discuss BW related drugs cases here because its a BW forum.

Happily discuss. Raids in general also don't really help, because the intention is rarely to prevent drug use. It is almost always to harass. As i said, if all these laws and raids helped, how did the drug problem become so bad in the first place.

When that student in Hyderabad was suffering from substance abuse, a system based on rehabilitation would try to help him, a system based on criminalizing would have thrown him in jail. That's all some people are arguing for. Once again, no one is asking for legalization (outside marijuana and some safe substances). You can make them civil misdemeanors. Fine the users and give them resources to recover from addiction. That's my last post here.

Peace out. ❤️

You have not heard of glue sniffing, huffing, or whip-its?

(Sorry, quoted wrong post)

Drug use is rampant in Indian medical colleges. I was too naive to realize it when I was there, but I hear stories from old classmates now.

Acc to some younger colleagues who arrived recently, it's still rampant. Much more so, in fact.

Same for engineers.

So what exactly did the war on drugs achieve?

I've heard of consuming corex (codeine based cough syrup) and spirit (meant for medical purpose) for cheap alternatives for recreation. The composition of corex was changed and the spirit was methylated rendering it unsuitable for consumption for recreational purpose.

Other than that i haven't heard of the things u mentioned. Petrol sniffing ka suna hai but marijuana jaisa effect nahi hota shayad uska.

Rather than cops raiding these celebs parties I would want them to help real victims of rape, murder, dowry, domestic violence n various other injustices.

Victims r dying without getting justice n here everyone is interested which celeb kid is consuming which drug. Let them ruin their life n health why should we care.
