I read somewhere she badmouthed kareena for having that hrithik affair. Not sure if it’s true or not but read it on some site.

There was stardust magazine article which said Hema Malini told her to stay away from Kareena due to her bad reputation -her fights and affair with married man etc so that it doesnt affect Esha career that was going good at that time

I don't remember exactly what "went wrong". Others have made some believable suggestions. I also think that maybe it could de due to Kareena distancing herself from anyone who she considered a threat. She became very insecure by the time Esha debuted and her career wasn't going as well as she hoped. That's why you'd only see her hanging out with Malaika's sister.
