Were Rhea and Rishi perfect spouses in KANK?

There's often this complaint about this film that Rhea and Rishi had no fault of their's in Dev and Maya going for an extramarital affair behind their back.

Rhea and Rishi are perfect spouses while Dev and Maya are themselves responsible for anything wrong in their respective marriages.

So let's see.

Rhea was a career woman. Always busy in her work. No time for her husband or kid. While Dev was far from being a perfect husband, Rhea wasn't a perfect wife either. It's her choice to bury herself in her work but then she should've been ready for the price she could pay for it.

Rishi was a good husband and life partner. Still Maya wasn't in love with him. Why? Because he was bad in bed. If he sucks at sex, how would Maya fall in love with him? Their relationship would always remain platonic. Did Rishi try to improve his performance? Maybe....but that wasn't enough.

So Rishi too fell short in becoming the perfect husband, and these are good enough reasons for Dev and Maya to find love somewhere else.

Whether they were right in engaging in EMA or not, I'll not comment on that right now.

How were Rishi and Rhea to be blamed at all?

Rhea was a career-driven woman, but that increased because she was the sole bread-earner in the family of four. After Dev's accident, it was her money that was running the house. And they were living in NYC, one of the most expensive cities in the world. Had she taken a breather, they would fail paying their bills and getting basic necessities like food. Dev could have easily taken up a different job but he was so bitter after his injury. Plus the fact that Dev's mother preferred to live with Rhea even after the divorce spoke volumes about the kind of person she was.

And when was it established that Rishi was bad in bed? Maya was never interested in him, irrespective of what he did for her. Forget about intimacy, but every time he would try being romantic with her she would just brush him aside, and call him immature. Rishi did work on trying to make their marriage work, it was Maya who was least interested in him. She never put in any kind of effort from her end at all.

I think Dev gave her the worst advice on her wedding day to marry Rishi. She was right to walk out on her wedding, she probably knew he wasn't the one. She could have talked to him, ask him to wait and then break up.. her friendship could have still been saved and Rishi would have understood.

Friends.. yes.. But lovers, no!

Yes I agree. Maya shouldn't have tied the knot if she never loved Rishi, because after marriage it was just this loveless bubble, which ended up hurting both of them.

There's always compatibility and other issues in relationships and marriages. Still doesn't make cheating right. Maybe Rishi and Ria weren't perfect partners but neither were their spouses. Their marriages weren't the "happy" ones and it was quite evident but Rishi and Ria didn't behave like a**holes and go ahead and cheat on their partners. KANK is obviously a complex movie because human beings are indeed like that. I would still understand Maya's situation because she never was in love with her husband, but then why did she have to marry him in the first place and ruin his life like that. Communication is the key but in real life also we evade such conversations and sadly people find cheating on their spouses easier. Ria was indeed a career oriented woman and rarely had time for her husband and child but does that give Dev an excuse to sleep with other woman? Umm I don't think so. None of them were bad people but I personally can never be okay with betrayals and cheating your spouses, it's the worst kind of thing to do to other human being.

Dev was always an ass and selfish too... I think he needed lots of therapy.

I can still understand Maya as to why she married him - she sort of felt guilty for turning down Rishi. Rishi and his father was the only family she had so it weighed her decision to marry him down, coupled with the fact that she got the worst advice on her wedding day.

Also, Rishi was bad at having a conversations.. he tried to joke around to lighten the situation but Maya wanted intense, deep conversations. Both of them were so incompatible and hence unhappy. It would have never worked.

Dev’s relationship would have worked had he not been so stuck up due to his injury and moved on.. and supported his wife. He could have enjoyed the life his wife gave him instead he just couldn’t get over his past and would keep cribbing all the time.

I watched this films many times (don’t ask me why)😆

My sister is progressive liberal and all that jazz. An even she said. Rhea’s wardrobe for a 8/9 year old kids mom was quite unacceptable. Let’s ponder that 😈

It's been 15 years and people are out here blaming Rhea - a woman for having a "full time job" and "unacceptable wardrobe for a mother of an 8 year old" for her husband cheating on her with a boring ass woman... 🤪

what on earth is a perfect spouse? Who are they? Where do they live? Need to replace my current partner with one of those if they exist.

Yes... Maya was confused and was even ready to run away. Had she run away, maybe the Rishi's family would have been upset for sometime, but they would have eventually understood...Maybe they wouldn't have been upset too much, they seem understanding, likeable people..

I agree Dev gave the worst advice to Maya.

Do you think Dev and Maya would have started their affair even if Maya didn't marry Rishi? In a ff world, destined to meet?
