Should we stop using the term "item song"?

Using the term "item song' is demeaning to the actress starring in it.

It reduces her to an object. A sex object whose only purpose is to provide viewing pleasure to the men watching her.

On the other hand, it's just calling spade a spade. Actresses do get objectified in item songs. They do get reduced to an "item".

Again people can watch whatever they want, but don't say it doesn't have an effect on women facing sexual objectification in real life.

Renaming it to "Bhajan Song" will not be any less demeaning. It's not in the name, it's in the song/lyrics/video itself - call it what we want.

Men star in item songs as well. It's called an item song cause it's considered a separate item during production.

The word item is used in a derogatory way for women. That is part of why it is called an item song.

From the start it should have been called something else like a decent word..The term item does sound off but they would continue calling it item songs

Ok call it item number , it is called for a reason , the word tells d meaning n purpose of d song . in item nos it can be man r woman as both are doing d item nos .

In Mumbai there are 2 commonly used terms for "hot girl".

One is item. The other is maal. Both depict commodities and do objectify the grammatical object.

Having said that, I personally don't find item songs as vulgar. In fact I consider them an (adult) art form.

Such songs should be called a niche event song but then every song can be labeled as one😆

So these type of songs shouldn't be made at all in your opinion?
