I don't know how old you were when the movie released. I was all of 14 and the craze around it was unmatched. Everyone was talking about Hrithik and how he became an overnight sensation. I can't think of any other movie which led to that kind of craze.
Looking back, have to admit it's not the movie but Hrithik which pulled in the crowds. That kind of unmatched frenzy, that kind of hysteria, I saw it repeated again 2007 with Deepika in Om Shanti Om, but even that paled in comparison to what we experienced in 2000.
I believe I won't ever see anything like that in my lifetime again.
What are your thoughts on it?
Of course twas cz of HR (maybe the songs contributed a little) and not the movie... duh :)
Bold - Yeah the magic of movies and movie stars seems to waning.
so it will be a miracle if that happens again... I could be wrong...
At this point it's more like his reflex whenever Hrithik or anything he's been in is mentioned. 😆
Yes. I was 11 years old and I remember my classmates writing HR name with their blood. It was a never before seen craze.
I was all of 5.
At that time my dad didn’t take us to watch it and later (after being smitten by HR in Dhoom 2) when I tried to watch the movie, I couldn’t even go past the first hour. It was boring as heck man!😳
I was around 10 at that time and have never witnessed such a phenomenon before and after that. I used to live in a small town at that time, not even a big city or metro, but Hrithik Craze had overtaken that town too so i can't imagine how craze would have been in bigger cities. The songs, posters and articles were every where. And that coca cola ad was such a rage. I remember i was buying coca cola with my mother and the bottle had hrithiks pic and the shopkeeper was like "apne baap ka naam Roshan kar diya isne". It wasn't that only girls were effected. Women of every age, guys, kids, men, every one was awed coz such a phenomenon on debut wasn't witnessed in our generation at least. It wasn't just movies success that had this impact, it was the way Hrithik Roshan had redfined what a hero should be like. Tall, young, stylish, amazingly handsome, great build, unbelievable dancer, good in romance as well as action ... We weren't used to expect this much from our heores all at once. So yeah no wonder his debut is one of a kind even after more than 2 decades. Also props to Rakesh Roshan, KNPH might not be a flawless movie but it gave an opportunity to hrithik to showcase everything, romance, action, dance, suspense in a natural way. The movie was meant to launch hrithik as an all round actor but could have easily fell flat and impactless in hands of a lesser actor. But Hrithiks looks, charisma and dancing took it to another level altogether which no one expected tbh.
Yes, KNPH became superhit and Hrithik was a heartthrob overnight.
The catchy melodious songs, his good looks, his great dance everything was loved by audience. He was good in romantic scenes too.
Hrithik became a promising star and he did stand up to it, although the success did falter in between but he built it up again.
I was 13 years then...I hail from south where hindi heros r not much followed but the craze for Duggu was like never seen before...I dont think anyone can match that phenomenal craze...just watching a scene r ad r a song from that movie on tv was a moment of celebration for us...he truly deserved it ❤️
I'll have to admit was a basically a baby during that time so I didn't get to be a part of it...
But even then I've heard from family members about the "Hrithik mania" during that time... (btw one distant aunt actually met him around that time too, she says he seemed super nice and humble )
And that is one hype/mania that I can totally understand haha, he looked so perfect (almost un real) in KNPH and acted and danced so well too... the definition of a complete package...
Too bad being overly choosy with films prevented him from getting even further in the long run 🤔
