KNPH and the frenzy which it evoked

I don't know how old you were when the movie released. I was all of 14 and the craze around it was unmatched. Everyone was talking about Hrithik and how he became an overnight sensation. I can't think of any other movie which led to that kind of craze.

Looking back, have to admit it's not the movie but Hrithik which pulled in the crowds. That kind of unmatched frenzy, that kind of hysteria, I saw it repeated again 2007 with Deepika in Om Shanti Om, but even that paled in comparison to what we experienced in 2000.

I believe I won't ever see anything like that in my lifetime again.

What are your thoughts on it?

I was 8 years of age when KHPH came out and I got sucked right into the frenzy. Overnight, I had Hrithik’s poster plastered on my bedroom door as I shimmy-danced to his picture. I must have looked a sight doing this exact dance move to a poster on a door. 🤣

I don't know what Sholays exact figure was but this film became one of highest grossing films ever upon release.
HAHK was like 72 crore

DDLJ was like 56

KKHH was 46

and this was like 44 Crore

Thats pretty good for someones first movie. ❤️

OMG same here. My friend and I went crazy collecting those picture-postcards of his and the summer of 2000, we all building friends organised a production where we danced to EK Pal Ka Jeena. Those were the heady days of teenage infatuation, and I can't help recollecting it with nostalgia overload.

Oh and the second half of KNPH was iconic. Hrithik's transformation into Raj...theatre went crazy. Though I always liked Rohit's character more and feel that is more like the real Hrithik, Raj was dapper and stylish and no wonder Ameesha's character couldn't stop staring!

Yeah I agree.

But the movie's collection aside, the kind of frenzy which the theatre-going audience exhibited was one-of-a-kind.

I think War rekindled the frenzy all over again. Hrithik's entry scene itself was enough to get the masses drooling!

Now let's see what Fighter has in store. Hrithik and Deepika in the same frame will be nothing short of legendary.

Oh I mourned Rohit’s death like no other. In fact, it took me a while to accept Raj because I wanted to be loyal and therefore refused to move on from Hrithik # 1 (😆). Plus, I didn’t fancy Raj with his glasses on. I started accepting him when he began to resemble Rohit more with the scruffy stubble. I guess even at 8 years of age, I still liked my men with a bit more hair on their face 😎.

But yes. I rather think I resembled Tiger more than Amisha when I was beholding Hrithik’s fine self. 🤣

Yeah, it was a tour-de-force performance from a total newcomer (unimaginable!), but sadly he could never match up to that -- in fact the next several years all his movies flopped, his acting was so bad for all movies from 2001 to 2004, his looks also didn't seem that good anymore. To me he was the most impressive in his debut film and sadly he could never come close to that ever again.

In 2003, he had Koi Mil Gaya...wasn't that like his all-time best performance? Also in 2004 he had Lakshya, another fine performance and very underrated.

Fiza and Mission Kashmir weren't flops and he was good in both. In 2001 he was part of KG3 - a blockbuster. In 2003 he had KMG - the HGOTY (a movie that started production in 2001 - so no it wasn't made to save him as some think ) which won him almost all the awards. His only really down year in terms of quality & hits was 2002. His was an impressive debut but he's had far better acting performances since. That and his looks just kept getting better.
