Chapter 54
“Oye, dhabewale….” Veer shouted. That caught Jay’s attention and he stopped. Turning around, the snake came into his human form. He laughed like a maniac. Veer had jumped out of the jeep right in time before the jeep blasted.
“Tu abhi mara nahi kya, cheel Singhania?” Jay taunted. Veer stood up and whistled. It made Jay think Veer was really mad. Badly injured but he was whistling so coolly. “Tu sach mein sarphira hai, cheel Singhania. Matlab maut saamne khadi hai phir bhi itna cool reaction.”
“Main hun hi itna amazing, dhabewale. Tu mujhe compete nahi kar sakta.” Veer answered laughing. Jay was malicious but Veer was crazy.
“Abhi toh tu ek normal insaan hai, Veeranshu Singhania. Mere saamne kamzor aur lachaar. Ek icchadhari naag, Adi-Naag ke saamne teri kya majal?” Jay retorted. Veer laughed.
“Dhabewale, agar main normal insaan bhi hota na, tabhi mera aur tera koi comparison nahi hai.”
“Hota? Tu hai, mere bhai. CHal tujhe ek sacchai batata hun. Meri maa, Chandrakala. She’s your half mother. Matlab ek tarah se teri surrogate mother. You were saved in Ishana Singhania’s womb because of her. Toh iss naate tu aur main aadhe bhai na.”
“Tu? Mera bhai? Please. Itna credit mat de khud ko. Tu mera bhai agle 10,000 divya varsho mein bhi nahi ban sakta.”
“10,000 divya varsh. Funny baat hai na? Tune aur maine dono ne 10,000 divya varsh intezaar kiya Bani ka.”
“Tune takat paane ke liye aur maine pyaar paane ke liye. That’s the difference. Aur yeh difference hum dono ke beech koi nahi mita sakta. Tere bholenath bhi nahi.”
“Mere? Who shayad sirf Bani ke Bholenath hai. Maine unse haath jodke vinti kiya ki mujhe bachye. Par nahi. Unhone mujhe nahi bachaya. Maine khud ko bachaya.”
“Naagmani chura ke. Dhabewale, tu gaya. Abh Bani kya, pura naagvansh hi tere sar pe tandav karega. Tune seriously naagmani churayi hai. Naagmani, koi Kohinoor heera nahi.”
“Main apne laksh tak pohochne ke liye kuch bhi kar sakta hun. Teri tarah nahi. Aakesh banke Naagmani lene aaya tha par khud marr gaya. Yaad hai kaise mara? Mujhe toh phir bhi asaan maut mili. Tujhe? Trishul par latke the 5-6 din. Giddh kitne acche se teri body ki dawat uda rahe the. Kaafi accha taste kiya hoga na tune…”
Veer knew to waste time so he can give Bani and others time to come as back up. Jay tried to bite him but Veer jumped out of the way. He was going to thank himself for not skipping a day of morning speed exercise. Veer started running, jumping over the stones. Jay followed him. Even at his fastest speed, he can’t outrun a snake but Veer took fast turns and jumped over hurdles.
Jay reached him and threw him away. Veer crashed against a tree. Jay tried to bite him again but Veer ducked again. The whistling was a natural reflex for him in this situation. Jay now started doubting it. Why was Veer whistling? Jay grabbed him in his coils. Veer could feel his bones cracking. This time Veer whistled a different tune. Jay was confused. What the hell was he doing?
“Tera sach mein mental balance hil gaya hai kya? Main tujhe maarne wala hun. Bani aur there pariwar ko maa aur Markaat ke logo ne roka hua hai. Tujhe bachane koi nahi aane waala.”
Veer chuckled.
“Tujhe pata kya hai mere baare mein, dhabewale. Tu hoga Adi-Naag but main? Main Veeranshu Singhania hun.” Veer reminded Jay. Veer managed to pull out the dagger Ahana gave him and stabbed the coil.
“Aaahh….” He screamed in pain. Veer continued stabbing until the coils loosened. The moment coils loosened, Veer threw a hard punch on Jay’s face and freed himself.
“Aaj toh tujhe apna shikaar hi bana lunga, Veeranshu Singhania.” Jay hissed.
“Ek baar udhar dekh.”
Jay turned around and sharp talons scratched him. An eagle attacked Jay. Another hawk attacked him. Together, a group of birds attacked him. Raptor birds with razor sharp talons. There was sound of eagles shrieking.
Veer flipped the dagger in his hands and stabbed Jay on his shoulder.
“Aaahhhh…” Jay shouted in pain. Jay tried to bite the birds but Veer signalled them to move away. They jumped up to safety.
A pair of smaller talons scratched Jay.
“Kakot? Pagal ho gaye ho? Das lega. Tu marr jaayega.” Veer shouted at him.
“Aakesh huzoor the tabhi mujhe apna dost maana. Abh Veeranshu ho phir bhi mujhe dost maana hai. Aur aapke liye jaan bhi chali jaaye toh yeh seena taan ke kehne waali baat hogi.”
“Waah… kya dosti hai. Dono yaar ek saath marna chahoge?” Jay taunted.
“Dhabewale, zara flashback mein jaa aur yaad kar tera kya haal kiya tha maine Satyug mein.” Veer retorted.
“Abh kahani badal gayi hai. Tu marega iss baar.”
“Baat toh hai. Tu mujhe maar dega. Meri sweetheart tujhe badla lene ke liye maar degi. Phir tu marega. Uske baad sweetheart phir se wahi pagalpan karegi khud ko maar dene ki. Hum sabh phir se janam lenge. Cycle continue kar sakte hai hum sabh. I have no problem. Main same kahani dohorane ke liye humesha haazir hun. Jitni baar main apni jaaneman ko pehli baar dekhunga, utni hi baar mera uske liye pyaar badh jaayega.”
Jay was about to bite Veer but the eagle attacked him and moved away. They dived and gorged out the flesh. The kites and hawks, dived and would tear a bit of his flesh and eat it. Veer laughed at that.
“Aaj toh inki dawat ho rahi hai. Yeh bhi accha hai.” Veer laughed at Jay.
“Dekh kya rahe ho. Bhago…” Kakot shouted at Veer. “Paglor. Jaaoge nahi toh maroge. Zinda bachoge toh wapas aake ise khatam kar paaoge.”
“Point.” Veer agreed and started running. Jay was determined too. He followed Veer but the speed was lessened with the raptors attacking him. Jay flicked his tail and one of them crashed against a tree and fell unconscious. Veer saw that and stopped.
“Saale, dhabewale.” Veer was mad. He went up to the bird. The birds all moved away and stopped on a tree. He picked up the bird and tried to whistle to wake up the bird but it didn’t. Veer needed water. How was he supposed to find water now?
Veer took out the dagger and carved out the rune that Rishi and Kartik earlier carved on his skin. Blood oozed out and then turned golden against the run. Veer looked up at the sky. After a few seconds, it started to rains. Just enough of drizzle to bring the bird to consciousness. The bird complained of pain to Veer. He whistled back. The bird flied up over a tree.
Jay tried to attack but Veer ducked and stabbed him. He grabbed his head and smashed it against a tree. “Galat person se panga liya, saale. Meri identity hi sarphire se shuru hoti hai. Aur sarphire logo ko ungli nahi karni chahiye. Main toh phir bhi cheel hun. Ungli karge toh ungli hi ukhaad ke phek dunga.”
Jay tried to attack against and Veer stabbed once more. The Naagmani kept healing Jay’s wounds. Veer eyes had that madness that Jay had once seen in Aakesh. Jay was just about to find out while all of naaglok was scared of Aakesh. The eagles let out their signature prey cry when Veer started fighting Jay. Jay several times turned into a snake and tried to attack but the raptors attacked him. That forced Jay to stay in his human form and fight Veer.
Veer threw a hard punch on Jay’s face. There was no break once Veer started beating up. Veer continued to smash Jay’s head against tree trunks and stabbed him several times madly at several placed. Every time Jay tried to bite Veer, he’d duck.
You can take Veeranshu out of his cheel form but you can’t take the cheel out of Veeranshu. It was instinctive in Veer. He was a cheel. Regardless of whether he could take that form or not. It was in his blood. The rain pouring was burning the wound but Veer gave no damn about it and continued to fight Jay.
The eagles were almost giving out signal of hunt. Their cries of hunt could be heard all through the forest. Singhanias were quick to notice how much the eagles were giving out the call.
“It’s a hunt call. Jab eagles shikaar karne waale hote hai, tabh aise awaaz dete hai.” Daksh pointed out.
“Who saare eagles phir Veeranshu ke aas paas hi honge.” Bani exclaimed. “Maine aapse kaha tha, Tapish bhai. Mera Veeranshu aise nahi mar sakta hai. Saare pakshi uski baat samajhte hai. Shayad isiliye awaaz de rahe hai. Shayad Veer ne unse kaha hoga taaki hume pata chale who kahan hai.”
Bani started running in the direction of the sounds. All the cheels were wet with rain pouring and they couldn’t fly anymore. They followed Bani.
“Maine khud blast dekha tha, Bhabhi.” Ponky told her.
“Bani, yeh bhi ho sakta hai ki Jay ne Veer ko maar diya ho isiliye aise ro rahe hai.” Balwant commented. Bani got really angry and grabbed Balwant’s throat.
“Phir se kisi ki himmat hui yeh kehne ki toh main sach mein das lungi. Waise bhi mera dimaag garam hai. Aur time waste karne ka time nahi hai aap mein kisi ko maarne ke liye.” Bani hissed dangerously and continued ahead. Her kurti and trousers were drenched wet.
“Veeranshu….” Bani shouted loudly. Bani stopped. This wasn’t going to work. She turned into her human naagin form. She stomped her foot, this vibration, every snake could feel. It would wake them up from their rest. Her hiss was signature of how Bani was Adi-Naagin. All the cheels moved away from her. Her eyes were red with slits. Bani had commanded every single snake around in the forest to find Jay.
All the snakes moved at her command and proceeded towards Jay. Bani’s own anger was projected in them. Hissing violents, making all the other ground creature run away in fear. Bani started walking in the direction. Behind her there were several snakes following her. Even Daksh, who was highly in tune with his animal instinct felt a bit scared.
Jay and Veer both noticed the hissing that was heard all around the forest. It was maddening. Any humans around this path would almost die out of fear with how loud the hissing was. To imagine that every snake in the forest was hissing violently. All of it was being projected out. The forest had fallen silent to Adi-Naagin’s temper. The earth was her domain. The forest was her kingdom just as much as Naaglok was.
“Bani.” Jay and Veer said together. The display of dominance had almost made both of them stop fighting. Veer was bleeding and injured. He didn’t know how long he could fight but then all of these signalled to the fact that Bani was here.
“Dhabewale, Bani aa chuki hai. Abh tu apni jaan bacha.” Veer laughed. Veer had ordered all the birds not to attack the snakes. If snakes responded to Bani’s command then all the birds would follow Veer’s command. Regardless of whether he could become an eagle or not, he still had the blood of Garud in his veins. Something no one can steal from him. All the snakes had surrounded Jay and Veer. Violently hissing. The closer Bani got to them, the more aggressive behaviour they showed. For a moment, Jay was scared. He tried to escape but the snakes wouldn’t let him leave. They’d hiss violently. Their hissing was so loud that Jay’s own hissing was subdued. They couldn’t hear Jay’s command with Bani’s own sound. As she walked, they heard the rattling sound. That rattling sound was as loud and clear to the snake as her temper was. They just could not hear Jay’s hissing.
Jay could control all these snakes using naagmani but that knowledge was only there with Adi-Naagin. No one else knew it. Not even Adi-Naag knew how to do it. It was exactly why Jay wanted to marry Bani and not kill her instantly. There was a lot of secrets to know from her. Several things only Adi-Naagin knew. That is what made her powerful above Naagrani.
It took a few moments and Bani showed up. Veer moved away from her path with how dominant she looked in that moment. Her fists were clenched hard that her own nails had digged into them and blood flowed out of it. Her eyes almost resembled Shiva’s own rageful tandav.
Jay had another trick up his sleeve this time.
“Main haara nahi hun, Bani.” Jay shouted. Jay pulled out the been and started playing it. She was Adi-Naagin but not immune to the been. Her scaled flashed in answered. Jay had put on the rings which cut off the sound of been. He had earlier stolen it from Bani and removed it out of her earrings. Even the snakes around had begun to be hypnotized by the been.
“Dhabewale…” Veer exclaimed. He went ahead to Jay but the snakes hissed at Veer. Some of them coiled themselves around Veer. Veer signalled the raptor. They started taking a dive at Jay to interrupt the been. At this point, the been had become so strong, that Bani had started to move in accord to it. Veer turned to look at her. The way she moved to it. The dance in reaction to the been was one of its own beauty. Her hands moving in the movement of a snake. One of the hands mimicked the graceful movement of a snake’s tail and her other hand almost as the head. Her red scales flashing. For a moment, Veer just stared at her. She was enchanting. Veer had seen several naagins reacting to the been before but none of them could be what Adi-Naagin was. Deadly predator in her own right in that way.
Veer was almost scared on what to do. The reaction was his whistling the old tune. Veer closed his eyes. He had to think fast. Jay had to stop to breathe somewhere. He can’t just go on and on playing the been. Bani just couldn’t stop reacting to it. It’s a reflexive reaction.
“Dhabewale… tu ruk jaa.” Veer whispered. One of the raptors moved and picked up the snake coiling on Veer. Veer picked up a stone and threw it at Jay. It hit him, knocking the been out of his hands. Kakot quickly grabbed up the been and threw it to Veer. Bani was finally able to stop.
“Jay!!!” Bani right up grabbed his throat. The snakes hissed violently and aggressively project Bani’s anger. Out of all the snakes, all the cobras coiled up over Bani, flashing their hood and hissed at Jay. “Sharafat ki hadd paar kar di hai tumne, Jay. Panditayin ko his das liya tumne toh. Guru hai iski bhi respect bhul gaye tum toh. Chalo who na sahi itni izzat bhi nahi kar paaye ki who ek aurat hai?”
“Bani, tum mujhe nahi hara sakti. Main bohot shaktishaali hun.” Jay exclaimed and pushed her away.
Veer noted that the small opening of Jay’s pocket had started to show the shine of Naagmani. Veer tackled Jay, quickly hiding it. Jay threw him off himself.
“Veeranshu, kya kar rahe ho?” Bani asked.
“Bani, jo bhi hai. Iska hint bhi dad ko nahi hona chahiye ki iske paas abhi Naagmani hai. Uski chamak hi kuch aisi hai acche acche use dekh ke hypnotize ho jaate hai and start wanting to possess it. Especially cheel. They’re just attracted to shiny stones anyway.” Veer whispered to Bani. She realized he had earlier tried to hide the shine of naagmani.
“Use Jay se wapas leni hai.”
Suddenly, an eagle came up, grabbed Jay and flew away. Veer whistled and when it didn’t listen to him, he realized it must be Chandrakala’s cheel form.
“Chandrakala.” Veer told Bani.
“Veer, uske paas….” Bani tried to tell Veer.
“Wapas le aayenge. Not now. Abhi uska peecha nahi kar paayenge. Sabh bheege hue hai. Main udd nahi sakta. Yeh saare bechare panchi bhi bheege hue hai.”
As Bani calmed down a bit, she instantly wrapped her arms around Veer. Holding him so tightly as if he would disappear suddenly if she let him go.
(Sorry to break narration but please do play here the female version of Dil Ibadat by Deepshika Raina)
“Waise toh kaafi accha lag raha hai, sweetheart, main chahta nahi ki tum mujhe chodo par dard ho raha hai.” He told her. Bani finally let him.
“W…woh Ponky ne k… kaha ki t..tum…” Bani could bring herself to say it. She heard the crash before the phone got cut. Then Ponky said that he saw the car blast. He held her face.
“Main yahin hun, sweetheart. Tumhare saamne hun. Kuch haddiya tooti hai, halat thodi buri hai but alive.” He winked at her. She hugged him. This time a little lightly.
“Veer….” Balwant went up to Veer. Bani moved away to let Balwant check Veer. “Mujhe laga ki uss naag ne tujhe maar diya hoga. Ponky ne blast bhi dekha.”
“Dad, woh chuza mujhe maarega? Na… Main Veeranshu Singhania hun. Jiss din usne mujhe hara diya uss main khud ko phir se kabhi Veeranshu Singhania nahi kahunga.” Veer answered.
“Halfway comeback kar diya, Veer bhai.” Sam exclaimed happily and hugged Veer.
“Abe dard ho raha hai. I broke a few ribs, some other bones and have quite some injuries. Araam se.” Veer told him complaining.
“Kuch nahi hota. Bhai ke liye thoda dard seh lo.” Sam teased. Veer laughed. This time Ponky hugged Veer. Veer could almost feel that Ponky had been completely scared that Veer had died.
“Kya, saale? Itna senti ho raha hai.” Veer teased.
“Mujhe laga ki aap sach mein marr gaye.” Ponky said.
“Thoda jaldi baat sun leta toh thoda kam maar khaya hua hota, saale. Senti hoke bol raha tha ki main aapko chod ken ahi jaaunga.” Veer commented. Veer’s body finally started to give and he stumbled. “Aaahhh…” He groaned in pain.
Bani and Tapish supported him. Finally, the cheels brought Veer back to the cheel mansion. After a while, Meera showed up. She gave him flowers.
“Mara nahi hun, Meera.”
“They’re not for a sad show. They’re get well soon flowers.” Meera commented.
“Waah… aise bhi hota hai?” Veer asked. She chuckled.
“Abh kaise ho?” Meera asked.
“Well, Bani koshish toh kar rahi hai mujhe heal karne ki but I’m a little too tired to co-operate to her healing.”
“Waise konsa bohot co-operate karte ho tum?”
Veer laughed.
“Point there.”
Meera sat down. She saw the chess board put out.
“You play chess?”
“Haan.”
“How about we play chess?”
“Meera, Veer is way too good at Chess. Rehne do. Haar jaaogi.” Tapish commented.
“So, what? Who says you can’t play chess? Haar toh haar hi sahi. Khelenge nahi toh waise bhi haar jaayenge.” Meera commented. Veer raised an eyebrow.
“Yeh tum keh rahi ho? Aaj tak toh apni maa ke against nahi jaa paayi. Mujhse jeetogi?” Veer taunted playfully.
“That’s a whole different story. Jaise tum Bani se haar gaye, waise main maa ke saamne haar jaati hun.”
“Oh hello. You and your maa story is different from mine and Bani’s.”
“Pyaar ka form different hai but pyaar toh hai. You love Bani romantically and I love my maa as my mother. That’s it.”
Meera set the board. The two started playing chess. Veer had a record. He had defeated several players at 12 minutes. But even after 15 minutes, the two were still fighting on the chess board.
“Checkmate.” Meera moved her piece.
“What the hell!!” Tapish and Veer exclaimed together. Meera laughed at that.
“Kya, bhai, izzat duba di. Meera se haar gaya. Main toh badi lambi lambi hank raha that ere baare mein. Tu haar gaya.” Tapish teased Veer.
“EK minute. Main abhi ise accept nahi kar paa raha. Meera ne mujhe hara diya?” Veer exclaimed and looked at himself in the mirror. Bani walked in at that moment with some medicines.
“Meera di state level chess player hai. Unke saath mat khelo. Haar jaaoge. Tumhari ego hurt ho jaayegi.” Bani commented. Tapish and Veer looked at each other.
“Yeh nayi information hai.” The two commented to each other.
“Tapish bhai, kya? Itna bhi pata nahi kar paaye. Itna message karte ho Meera ko. Itna pata kar liya hota.” Veer shoved his brother. Tapish threw a pillow at him. The two started to have a pillow fight.
“Let me join in too…” Sam jumped up the bed and started continuing the pillow fight. The three continued pillow fight.
Meera and Bani broke into laughter. Sam and Tapish decided to corner Veer together.
“Saale, cheaters…” Veer shouted as the two attacked together.
“Jeej, don’t worry. I’ve got your back. Iss Samrat ko main dekhti hun. Purani dushmani hai meri isse.” Vanshika joined in and attacked Sam with a pillow.
“Oh, hello. Bros before hoes. Bhaiyo ke beech aag mat laga. Chal…” Sam attacked her.
“Tumhe toh main dekhti hun, Samrat Singhania.” Vanshika retaliated. Tapish and Veer stopped their pillow fight. Tapish put an arm on Veer’s shoulder and the two looked at Vanshika and Sam going on and on with each other. The two looked at each other and grinned. Sam and Vanshika seemed to be in their own world with pillow fight.
They stopped after a moment when they noted that the pillow fight had stopped.
“Kya hua? Odd looks mat do.” Vanshika commented.
“Nahi. Hum sirf tum dono ko dekh rahe the. You seemed to be really involved into this intensely.”
“Shut up. Aisa kuch nahi hai. I was just here in your support.”
“I thought that you’d wear some kind of snake slippers. Yeh bunny slippers tujhpe suit nahi karta.” Veer and Sam told her.
“Don’t be jealous. Mera bunny bohot cute hai.” She flipped her hair.
“Bas use kha mat lena.” Sam teased her. She pushed Sam off the bed and Sam fell on his butt.
“How about I eat you?”
“Mujhe pata tha. Yeh tumhari fanstasy hai.”
Everyone laughed.
“Samrat. Aaj tu gaya…” Tapish muttered. That said, the two shot off. Sam running ahead with Vanshika behind him. Sam ran straight up to Balwant. The two ran around in circles around him.
“Kya… kya hai yeh sabh?” Balwant asked.
“Samrat baby, come on. Be brave. Stop hiding behind you papa cheel.” Vanshika taunted him.
“Acha? Taaki Naagin mujhe das le? Na na…. itna asaan nahi hai.”
Sam shot off. The two started running everywhere around the house.
“I swear. Kitchen mein nahi.” Tapish quickly blocked the kitchen. If there was any place in the entire mansion that Tapish was protective off, it was the kitchen. His control freak behavior showed up when someone messed up the kitchen.
Veer laughed.
“Bhaag, Sam, bhaag. Aaj teri zindagi ka faisla teri speed karne wali hai.” Veer shouted and laughed.
“Actually, Veer bhai, it’s a funny thought. For the first time, Vanshika Kashyap mere peeche bhaag rahi hai. Warna it has to be me running behind her.” Sam added. The brothers laughed at that. Vanshika threw a sofa pillow but Sam ducked it and laughed. “Not to mention. Miss Kashyap ko aaj kal hum Singhanias ki saubat acchi lagne lagi hai. Tabhi toh apna 4 bhk flat chodke yahan humare Singhania Mansion mein reh rahi hai.”
“Kya pata teri saubat acchi lagne lagi ho.” Tapish added.
“Please… main aur Samrat? Please!!!” Vanshika refused to admit it.
“Tumhe uski saubat acchi lage na lage, use toh badi acchi lagti hai.” Pawan added.
“Sam, approval mil gaya, saale. Abh bas propose kar hi de.” Veer shouted.
“Marvaoge kya, Veer bhai? Suna nahi? Madam ko kaatne ki aadat hai” Sam teased. Everyone laughed.
