Peddi director issues apology; announces edits after Janhvi Kapoor objectification row explodes

After the blockbuster opening of Peddi, director Buchi Babu Sana has addressed the growing debate surrounding certain scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor. While the film has emerged as one of the biggest box-office successes of the year, discussions around the portrayal of its female lead have continued online, prompting the filmmaker to respond publicly and assure audiences that corrective measures are being taken.

Buchi Babu Responds To Criticism

In a detailed note shared on X, Buchi Babu acknowledged the concerns raised by a section of viewers who felt that some portions of Peddi were uncomfortable and appeared to objectify the female character. The director stated that cinema should entertain and connect with audiences, not leave anyone feeling disrespected.

He clarified that it was never the intention of the makers to demean or objectify any woman through the film. At the same time, he said he respects the sentiments of viewers who felt otherwise and offered a sincere apology to those who were hurt by the portrayal. His statement struck a conciliatory tone, emphasizing that audience feedback is important and deserves to be heard.

The controversy comes at a time when Peddi is enjoying a dream run at the box office. Headlined by Ram Charan, the film reportedly opened with a staggering worldwide gross of over ?135 crore on its first day, making it one of the biggest openings of 2026.

Written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the film features an ensemble cast including Shiva Rajkumar, Janhvi Kapoor, Divyendu Sharma and Jagapathi Babu.
