Lot of 60s & 70s movies have love triangle with one gal & two guys

I can watch retro films, especially those of Amitabh Bachchan! 😁

Admittedly, I haven't seen Forrest Gump in its entirety 😆 unless I saw it when i was younger, I dont remember. But from what I've read, I don't think it's really a love story is it? There is a romantic track but it's not the main story of the film? Or am I wrong?

KHNH is my favorite unrequited love story. I think it's one of SRK's best roles. The character development is good and it portrays unrequited love in a refreshingly mature way. Sunil starts off immature and toxic, but it's never celebrated just because he loved Anna, and he gets to grow and learn from his mistakes.

In Saagar Raja's love for Mona is unrequited. Although you asked for man's love unrequited, it goes both ways. In DTPH Nisha's love is unrequited. Despite DTPH being a big hit, I hated it and think Nisha was the only really likable character.

I am unsure of calling Gatsby or 500 days of Summer "unrequited." Daisy did love Gatsby. The two dated before Gatsby was deployed and had an affair later. Daisy does express a desire to elope with Gatsby, but he wants her to divorce instead. It's more a tale of circumstance, jealousies, and a commentary on the era rather than unrequited love.

Similarly, in 500 days of Summer, I'd argue that Tom wasn't in love with Summer but in love with the idea of falling in love. The two do end up dating and Summer does reciprocate Tom to a certain extent. But she never feels a sense of long term commitment towards him. The toxicity and bitterness Tom shows that the idea of a perfect relationship was more important to him than Summer and her feelings.

I really like The Half Of it as an unrequited love/coming of age story. Paul's love for Aster is never wholly reciprocated and Ellie doesn't love him either. Ellie's love for Aster is also not wholly reciprocated. We never really know if Aster was falling for Paul, Ellie, or just wanted to escape the expectations of Trig and her father.

I liked Karan's (actor's name was Sid) silent unrequited love for Soha Ali khan in rang de basanti

He supported her and R Madhavan - you can see his pain perfectly portrayed by the actor without any direction dialogues

It was not the Central part of the plot though

Same goes for YJHD - Aditi loved Aditya Roy Kapoor's character - pretty sad - but she moves on ig - or tries to- idk if she really loved her husband

Raanjhanaa

A best example for a movie on unrequited love. I felt for Dhanush's character, he literally sacrificed his whole self while loving the girl he truly cared about. And in return got nothing😭💔

From Hollywood, you can watch Roman Holiday. A classic example for an unrequited love story. Audrey Hepburn won Oscar for the film.

Phantom of the Opera - my very first broadway show experience. I loved it so much, but hated Christine then :)

I couldn't believe that she left Phantom for the boring Raul!

What are some films

Where you were rooting for the pairing of the lead actor/actress with the second lead/side character instead of with the main one?
