Really? I thought both did well here. In fact, it seems to me that both were given roles that would suit their personality more and Deepika looked every bit as magnificent as Priyanka did.

Deepika is not a good actress. A film like Piku can hammer a passable performance out of her. She can carry off a Meenamma where range of expressions required is narrow. She cannot carry a Badla or a Kahaani or a Chaapak.

Priyanka is a passable actress, not superb as some are making her out to be. But considering the fact she didn't have any training, I think her innate talent remains untapped.

Alia is good. Her physical form will not allow her to carry certain roles, and she and her contemporaries like Parineeti and Bhumi have fallen into the KJo school of drama trap.

Tapsee is good only in roles which require her to project a certain inner toughness.

With Piku maybe she could do it, but still not as well as Deepika.

Deepika has great comic timing. She really knows how to wring the juiciest expressions out of even staid lines and deliver them with such panache. She was superb in Chennai Express -- Piku, Cocktail, Chennai Express and Tamasha are her best performances, followed by Finding Fanny, YJHD, Ram Leela and Chapaak. She was decent in Bajirao Masrani as well, I think she performed pretty well and yes, she was overshadowed by Priyanka because of the sympathy factor. No other reason.

I haven't watched too much of her work pre-Cocktail. She was decent in Break Ke Baad, Lafangedy Parindey, and Kartik Calling Kartik, the 3 movies of hers which I have watched. She was bad in Chandni Chowk to China and Houseful from what I have seen of clips, but she didn't really have a space to emote in these 2 movies.

Deepika is a pretty good actress, and has really slogged to reach where she is today.

Agree with you on the Priyanka part, but completely disagree with you on the Deepika part. Deepika is a good actress, and she was able to carry Chapaak pretty well. Coming to Badla and Kahaani, she would have aced Badla but Kahaani very few actresses would have been able to pull off except a Vidya or a Kangana, I cannot think of anyone. Kahaani was a very tough role, and the physicality, emotions, and tensions would have been hard for any mainstream actress except the names I mentioned. None of the roles Kangana/Vidya played Deepika could have played better, she's juts not in that league.

But she is in the league of Priyanka and Alia, for sure!!!
