People’s Meter or TAM device for BARC ratings

How many people in this forum have a people’s meter or TAM installed on their TV sets? Because apparently it seems that BARC gets their impressions from households that have these installed only. So if I were to conclude, those who don’t have these meters installed, even if they watch Naagin or any other show it want make a difference to the ratings??? If that’s the case then this is so unfair.

I mean the ratings are dependent on the viewership of a few thousand households which is around just 44000 all over India. Is that even reliable? So this means all the other people who may be watching shows targeting the urban youth are just not counted to calculate the ratings.

This trp method is so weird. Never understands it.

I just don't understand how it works since i live abroad it does not count too but its disappointed to see that so many good shows are being axe which is not fair

It’s not just abroad, even people who live in India don’t get counted or included in the impressions because the sample size selected is very less. Like imagine, 44000 or 300000 households compared to A crore something which is the entire population. How do we know if that sample size is even representative of the entire population or audience? I feel this BARC is a big fat liar at times. Rather than installing meters to a few random household why not just pre install them on the set top boxes and record the viewership. Cable operators or DTH providers would have a better idea to give more accurate information.

That's right. A major portion of the viewership is not taken into account because of technical reasons which is very unfair. I watch the show live on Jio TV app because I've heard that it does contribute to BARC rating points.

Trp is calculated based on what a selected sample of households in India watch on their TV sets. These households have something called a people’s meter or BarOmeter installed on their sets by some third party agency hired by BARC and based on that the impressions get recorded. And at the moment the sample size is just too small. I heard it’s either 44000 or 300000 households which is very less. According to me it should have been at least 100 or 200 million households

You are absolutely correct. In the whole nation, 20 crore television viewers are active subscribers but only 44,000 meters judgement are taken into the account. I am really surprised that this manipulation shit is going on since 30 years but nobody had raised their voices against it. Infact i am really thankful to mumbai police that they brought this scam into the light but this time it had became a national issue otherwise everytime its neglected or thrown in the dark. Many people had given solutions that if Cable and DTH operators tweak the set top boxes to record the viewership then we will get supreme ratings of television shows. Now advertisers are protesting and we consumers too had to do it. Also, union ministry had suggested to take this matter seriously and had asked BARC to improve trp system or shut it down. 😕

it is so unfair to good shows that are being axe

what colors do to pavitra bhagya was injustice end it abruptly when the actual story starts now and even bepanah so many good shows has been axed

according to me,shut that god damn thing down

prepare a contract that a show last only for 1-2 years maximum
