I am really surprised that this manipulation shit is going on since 30 years but nobody had raised their voices against it. Infact i am really thankful to mumbai police that they brought this scam into the light but this time it had became a national issue otherwise everytime its neglected or thrown in the dark. Many people had given solutions that if Cable and DTH operators tweak the set top boxes to record the viewership then we will get supreme ratings of television shows. Now advertisers are protesting and we consumers too had to do it. Also, union ministry had suggested to take this matter seriously and had asked BARC to improve trp system or shut it down. 😕

If you ask me this entire trp nonsense has been a scam since it was introduced. Because of that alone Indian television has turned into shit just to cater to the tastes of a few households who may not even represent the total audience. We sit and watch our favorite shows and we are still unable to contribute to their ratings which is so infuriating and because of that they get axed. BARC needs to figure out a way to tweak the set top boxes indeed.

it is so unfair to good shows that are being axe

what colors do to pavitra bhagya was injustice end it abruptly when the actual story starts now and even bepanah so many good shows has been axed

according to me,shut that god damn thing down

prepare a contract that a show last only for 1-2 years maximum

I would say maximum should be 6 months. Now if the show become popular then it can be brought back with a season 2 with the story continuation after a gap of few months. Ekta made a contract with Starplus for kzk which was from 2017 to 2021 but it ended this year itself. Thus i feel no show should be dragged or run over 6 months chahe kitni bhi acchi story ho. You see the more the show is finite the more there will be a crispyness. And i am sure after the viewership expand to limitless audience their will be a vast change in terms of television content and tv programming. We may return back to weekly or bi-weekly format like Naagin which i feel is the best format.

Yeah am i mean am totally shocked to know that we are the consumers we are paying for these bloody channels and they are not even granting our viewership. They had limited it to some selected households which is negligible infront of 20 crores television watchers. This is totally infuriating. Shows like Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum, Sanjivani 2019, Ishqbaaaz, Ek Bhram Sarvagunn Sampann, Bepannah, Silsila, Manmarziyaan, Badtameez Dil, Dehleez etc etc etc shows who were so popular got ignored in seconds of this fake trp. Their real viewership got neglected to so many levels that i cant explain how bad i am feeling. All these shows could rocked in ratings if the judgement was by the real television audience. Even the mtv shows like KYY and Channel V shows. You know i am wondering when today the trps will be released it wont be a judgement of us but those selected households whom i dont know could be people staying in rural areas or slums. What about us !

NBA hails BARC decision, calls for `complete overhaul` of viewership rating system

Zee Media Bureau Oct 15, 2020, 19:47 PM IST,

New Delhi: The News Broadcasters Association (NBA) on Thursday (October 15) welcomed the decision of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) to suspend the measurement of television viewership ratings of news channels for a period of twelve weeks.

The NBA, which represents the news broadcasters, believes that the suspension is an important step in the right direction. BARC which measures TV viewership on behalf of broadcasters, advertisers, and advertising agencies, should use these twelve weeks to completely overhaul its systems and restore the credibility of the information it collects about What India Watches.

“Recent revelations have brought disrepute to the measurement agency and by extension the broadcast news media. The corrupted, compromised, irrationally fluctuating data is creating a false narrative on What India Watches and has been putting pressure on our members to take editorial calls that run counter to the journalistic values and ideals of journalism”, said NBA President Rajat Sharma.

“The current atmosphere of toxicity, abuse, and fake news is no longer tenable and NBA as the custodian and guardian of Indian broadcast media believes a bold step of putting ratings of news genre on hold will help in improving the content”.

“For many years NBA has been highlighting its concerns about the veracity of TV viewership data, which have been prone to irrational fluctuations. Recent events have shown that there is much more at stake than just the measurement of news channels’ popularity. Indeed, a healthy and vibrant TV news industry is vital to Indian democracy," the NBA President added.

The NBA statement said, "We expect that the period of suspension will be utilised to implement important reforms at BARC. To safeguard the integrity of viewership data, human intervention in its collection and processing must be totally eliminated. Data security, including encryption and restricting access to key information, must be ensured. Complaints, if any, should be dealt with in an independent and transparent manner."

"NBA also expects greater consultation and openness when important decisions are taken by BARC. We look forward to meaningful discussions and swift decisions which are in the interest of viewers, the industry, and the public as a whole," it added.

NBA is the premier association of private news and current affairs broadcasters. IBF is the apex grouping of the Indian broadcast industry. IBF owns a 60% interest in BARC, which measures TV viewership ratings. The Indian Society of Advertisers and The Advertising Agencies Association of India own 20% each.
