When shit needs to get done, then yes. But I absolutely refuse to do those kind of hours on the regular. It’s not practical, it’s freakin exhausting and not healthy plus it comes at the cost of a social life/your relationship with others. I don’t think i’d ever be on my deathbed thinking ‘damn, wish I worked more hours at the office’. So i’m at the point where i’ll do whatever it takes to continue climbing up the career ladder but never to an extent where I’m sacrificing my social life/me time to the point where i’m unhappy.

Don’t believe social media ya’ll. You see the champagne glasses clinking at rooftap bars with the LV bags and Valentino shoes, you don’t see the ridiculous grind night after night working at client offices because the partners keep shitting on the juniors. (Including senior managers)

I used to work in Audit before I changed my career, and we used to clock in at least 15 hours a day during tax season. It was super unhealthy. One of our coworker died bc she used to work late, the firm changed their policy to 11 hours, but still people worked their asses off.

Morning 8 to Evening 5. One hour lunch breack. 8 hours in a day. After that, my messed up house is waiting for me. Jhadu, pocha, bartan, dinner. No maid. I won't call myself workaholic, those are my normal working hours written in my contract. On weekend, when I check WhatsApp status of my colleagues, it's all about enjoying weekend when I am busy fixing my home. We all have same working hours, they get time to enjoy weekend, but I'm stuck with my home cleaning. It's all about time management.

bold: What? That's terrible! Audit is brutal, no doubts about that. I've heard so many similar stories in investment banking too, they take adderall in copious amounts to focus hardcore and meet unrealistic work demands. A guy I knew was in a hospital for 5-6 months cuz he overworked with a bad flu and yet, he's still working in that company. I would have been out of there by now. There's no point jeopardizing your health and sanity like that.

I know so many people who fantasize about changing their careers but not many actually take that leap, more power to you and hope life's brighter on the other side!

I was workaholic...used to work from 7:30 am to 2-2:30 am. Developed multiple illnesses...chronic neck pain, chronic shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, generalized anxiety disorder and insomnia...quit the job and was freelancing for a year. But now again interviewing to get back on the job force and already the “gap year” is killing my prospects. Once am back in the workforce, am sure that I will be back to being a workaholic. But I won’t regret it this time as half the damage is already done plus this time I am taking the plunge knowing all the consequences.

No. I can easily switch on and off. If there’s something I need to find the solution, I try till 6 PM on Friday and I am done. Then I go back to it on Monday morning only. Family time is family time. Me time is me time!

Thanks for sharing you all. Each and every reply is so interesting.

As for me, I'm not a workaholic. I'm in publishing which is a dream job but right now for the last 2 years I am stuck in legal editing which is not something I enjoy. I'm trying to get back to mainstream publishing but it's tough in the Covid scenario.

When I am working it's difficult for me to allow myself a break

But once I take a break it's as difficult for me to get back 😆

Don't know what to call it.😆
