As International Women's Day approaches, actress Shubhangi Atre who has been a part of shows like Do Hanson Ka Jodaa, Havan, Chidiya Ghar, and Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain! shares her heartfelt thoughts on what the day truly means to her.
“Women’s Day is not just about celebration,” she says. “For me, it is reflection, gratitude and strength coming together. It is a reminder of how far we have come and how strong we really are.” She explains that the day makes her pause and appreciate the women who shaped her life. “All the naaris in my life are the source of strength and energy in my life,” she adds warmly. “Be it my mom, my sisters, my daughter Ashi or my best friend Megha, each one of them inspires me every single day.”
Talking about empowerment, she says the meaning has changed beautifully over the years. “Earlier, empowerment was about getting equal rights. Today, it is about owning your space without asking for permission,” she shares. According to her, an empowered woman is someone who does not shrink herself to make others comfortable. “Confidence is quiet, but it is powerful,” she adds. “It is about making your own choices and standing by them.”

Recalling moments from her own journey, she says there were times when subtle gender bias made her stronger. “I was once told to be grateful instead of asking for what I deserved,” she reveals. “That day I learned that knowing your worth is not wrong. It is self-respect.” She says that resilience is built in small, brave decisions.
On financial independence, she firmly says, “It gives a woman confidence and clarity. It allows her to make decisions without fear.” She adds that while progress has been made, society still needs mindset changes. “Equality should feel normal, not exceptional,” she concludes. “The day we stop being surprised by strong women, that day Women’s Day will truly become a celebration of equality achieved.”
