Why bother about the awards now, people will remember the good songs now whether or not they won the awards.
Bheege Hont Tere was crazily heard that year and was a huge chartbuster. If it won the award that year, it is fine, nothing to complain. But, now a decade and a half later, it doesn't have the same zing and feels dated in a 'timely' way. It is not the case with Sonu's song from Main Hoon Naa and won't be the case a decade later as well. That's Sonu's reward.
The better-sung songs will sound fresh even now. Other, including chartbusters of the particular time, will sound dated after a period. In a decade from now, Bheege Hont Tere 'might' be forgotten entirely, but it won't be the case with Sonu's.

So "easy" songs shouldn't win? If you can sing hindustani classical, then you can sing that song. Sonu is a terrific singer but he's had much better songs to win. Like him not winning for Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin. Next you will say Uditji shouldn't have won for Papa Kehtein Hai over Md Aziz for Dayavan.
And I was a kid and remember Bheege Honth playing on every radio station. Every kid was singing it and we did not have the kind of internet access as today. We had cassettes and CDs. None of us saw the music video but we loved the song.
The Rock Qawaali part is Anu Malik's creation. It added to the album. Can't give a singer the credit for the music director's work. Sonu sung it well coz he is a talented singer but both the songs are equally challenging.
I get it that you are a Sonu fan but the kind of vocal range Abhijit da showed in Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha was brilliant. The romance and feel in his voice was out of this world. U cannot compare it to Suno Na. And if you want to, the closest song is Deewana Tera Tujhe Hi Bulae.
At least acknowledge another singer's brilliant doing.
its team work ...Sonu was the first choice for technically difficult songs his contemprories abhijeet, udit , kumar sanu were good but had much limitations and they were monotonous as well....they only sings what they was able to sing so credit for qawali goes to tremendous rendition as well as to md :) and forget this song what about the classics of Veer Zara :) ...Those were simple yet shareef song but didnt won it :P but a waahiyaat song like bheege hont won :P

It was a nice song. Sonu did a great job. My point is about the song not being easy or tough, but the singer's expressions, feel and his own style. And Kunal sung his song fabulously. No matter which singer you like atleast acknowledge another singer's work too.

Ar Rehman whole bollywood carrier songs of late 90's are redone of his own old south work ...Saathiya was Ar Rehman south work ...Sonu Nigam give it a life which have more appeal than hariharan rendition of south

So alot of Rehman's awards are suspect
No because he used his own compositions of south to bollywood ...its entirely his songs , he can use it anywhere he wants.... he didnt plagiarised
