I have a hard time understanding why the current generation is so obsessed with being skinny? I know not everyone is but I hear so many people complaining about their daughters starving themselves to look skinny and some of them have even landed up in the hospital. I know a couple of them personally.

I am not saying one should be obese but have a healthy weight which is easy to get if you eat sensibly and exercise regularly unless you are ill or something.

So, whats the deal about? Even in Bollywood there is this obsession about being skinny. Most of the yesteryear actresses were not skinny, yet they had an amazing charisma and screen presence. So, why this obsession now?

I guess they look to see what's hip and fashionable - look in any girl's magazine and the size the models therein are portrayed.....

Unfortunately, peer pressure is everywhere, and not many cultures are impervious to the superficial standard set by international mags/models....

In UK/Europe - ther ehas been so much debate on the the dangers of trying to attain "Size 0" and yet my sister (much more attuned to Bollywood than me) told me that apparently Kareena Kapooor has also lost weight to achieve this much sought after size.....young girls are bound to take notice of this....

Sad but true....life in all aspects seems to be extremely competitive nowadays.....I even heard the other day someone talking about potential rishte and how one of the women was looking for a size 10-12 (UK size) girl for her son.....so anything above was ruled out...... I mean, how pathetic is that!! 😔

It's all so sick and shallow....but unfortunately appeals to too many people for most young girls to ignore.....

i think slim is great. skinny and overweight are not. the look one can get from a regular excercize and careful diet regimen is the best one imo. so i dont understand the craze for the emaciated skinny look. but then, i also dont understand the nostalgia for fat yesteryear heroines. šŸ˜†

anyways, it's all like the kind of non-veg you enjoy. boneless chicken doesnt taste all that great, does it? but on the other hand, cant have all bones, no meat, can we? šŸ˜› šŸ˜†

generally speaking, slimmer forms do function lot better than the obese forms. don't they?

given a choice, i would take skinny over obese any day. losing weight is not an easy task. it takes lot of determination and hard work. personally, i like the slim form best. i think women shd have some curves. naheen toh achhee naheen lagteenšŸ˜†

getting back to the debate, if there is one here, i think young girls r doing this more because of peer pressure and to fit in. i feel these obsessions have always been around. it's just now they r lot more common and media is giving it lot more attention. therefore, we hear about it all the time.

You are right but I thought we were talking about average size 10-12 women not obese size 20 women.. Debate is about starving oneself to attain size 0..😊

oh. okay. i see ur point now. waisey 10-12 could be overwt too if one happens to be up to 5'4" in height. i feel size 4-6 is perfect. don't really care much for anything lower than that😊

The PS3 is large and in charge, the Wii is slim and cute as a button. It all depends on how you like it. I think cell phones and Mac Air are to blame.

I know the thread is about obsession with reducing weight but binge eating is also a disorder. I have seen some ladies being proud of their super plus sizes and claim it to be normal. Same way the young girls caught up in the skinny world is scary too. Size 0 for Indians is never heard of though I have a Chinese friend who is size 0 and still looks healthy. She eats regularly and still stays that way. Staying healthy by exercising and eating regularly should be the way to go.

well no one wants to be fat and overweight.. Skinny people look better.. I am obsessed with losing weight and no matter how much weight i lose, i feel like i can lose more

and yes I can't wait to be size 0. Girls who go on and on about how they like being "curvy" would love to be skinny..
