Subtlety in Deepika's acting is her only drawback (DT Note pg 2)

Deepika's understated act in Chapaak was really nice, it left tears in my eyes. But I see people not appreciating Malti enough, and the conclusion I came was that it was too subtle for audiences who have grown up on a staple of overacting actors and considering them to be their idols.

Deepika never overacts- that's her strength as well as (unfortunately) weakness. She needs to overact like Kareena, SRK, Ranveer and hrithik to be considered a "good" actor. The dignity in her performance should have been replaced with drama to lend it more bravura.

Otherwise, I fail to understand what complaint people have with her acting? She emotes so well, so adequately and so refreshingly as Malti. You never see the original traits. She disappears into the character.

I think it's got more to do with her voice modulation/intonation...

Her voice sound very monotonous in every movie of hers. She lacks expression in that department.

Yeah that is true...dialogue delivery needs improvement

Her voice modulation is terrible. It’s been 12 years and it’s still awful.

She needs to maybe to swimsuit magazine spread

Deepika is a director's actor I guess. Different directors wring out different performance from her.

She is mostly average. Good in some movies. But really bad in SLB movies. In BM & Padmavaat she was totally expressionless. She isn't like that in her other movies. Maybe that's SLB's definition of subtle elegance 😆

But I found her pretty good in Chhapaak. I can't imagine anyone else as Malti.
