Good Newwz Has A Very Good Sunday

Good Newzz had very good collections on Sunday with collections of 25-26 crore nett. The film has gone up around 20% on Sunday which is excellent for a metro film. It is the festive holiday period which may have helped the evening collections a little.

The weekend number will be in the 64-65 crore nett which is the second best ever for an Akshay Kumar starrer after the 67 crore nett plus of Mission Mangal but that film had a huge first day holiday. The trend over the weekend is strong and the film should be uble to hold up well on Monday and then take benefit of the holiday factor on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Good Newwz is fantastic in East Punjab and Delhi / NCR with the former looking at a weeeknd of around 8.50 crore nett and even Delhi / UP crossing 15 crore nett despite UP being on the lower side partly due to the protesting and partly due to the type of film it is. The lower performance has come in Nizam / Andhra, East India and Gujarat / Saurashtra though the latter had good growth on Sunday.

This movie surprised me, I thought that it would be the typical over the top Dharma movie where everything is melodramatic and extra - but not at all! The movie has heart!

The writing is brilliant, the dialogues and the actors who are delivering the dialogues - flawless!

The movie also calls out and talks about many societal issues and things that should change - but it’s all non-preachy and doesn’t weigh you down or make you feel like you’re getting a lecture.

Performance wise - everyone delivered.

Akshay proves once again why he’s the best! Flawless comic timing and innovative comedy. He doesn’t repeat anything he’s already done. He also proves that yes Akshay can deliver non-patriotic films! Dare I say I feel that he should be nominated for Best Actor

Kareena looked so refreshing on screen. Honestly, I never liked her but I was so happy to see her on screen. It’s been a long time I’ve watched a movie where the lead actress doesn’t look like a teenager. That one dialogue she has in the second part of the movie where she talks about pregnancy absolutely wrenched my heart. Her delivery and the emotion in that scene was breath taking. I don’t care what anyone says it’s better than any current actresses work! Give her awards for that one scene please

Diljit was also really good, and showed range too. He wasn’t all jokes and had depth in his emotions and the way he played his role too. I feel like he’s a very underrated actor and is capable of much more!

Kiara was good as well. Sadly - I don’t think of her as a “star”, she’s a good actress and can deliver for sure but I feel like she lacks screen presence and doesn’t have that wow aura that an actress should have, that’s where she kinda paled - you won’t pay attention to her when you have big personalities like Akshay, Kareena or Diljit on screen who hog the screen with their overwhelming presence!

Overall a perfect entertainer for the holiday season! Recommended for good laughs and good content

Loved your review! I watched it with family and we laughed the entire time! Everyone did a fabulous job. Akshay has aged like fine wine, Diljit is a rockstar, impeccable comic timing. Kiara was adorable, played her part so well.

And Kareena, omg, what a fine actress she has blossomed into. So subtle and impactful. That monologue at the end was not easy. But her dialogue delivery was so spot on. It’s always been her strength and now more than ever.

Watched it today. It was hilarious never a dull moment except some 5 min emotional part which goes away with a situational song. 99.9% pure entertainment. Amazing way to end the new year with. And yes, dialogues were too good and unique but acting by each and every one was fabulous. Esp. Akshay he was like on a roll. Including Diljit he was too soooooo good. Kareena was surprisingly really really good again. didn’t expect after seeing the trailer but she was sooo good and even kiara was very cute. I loved it. Enjoyed watching a comedy after so long!!

Good Newwz Super Strong On Monday - Emerges A HIT

Good Newwz has emerged a HIT film as it records a super strong collections on Monday which should come in the 13 crore nett range. The drop looks to be in the 25% range from Friday with a better hold in Delhi NCR. The four day collections of the will be 78 crore nett and it could do a first week of 115 crore nett as the film is unlikely to drop till Thursday.

The film is the fourth HIT of Akshay Kumar this year and the last time a major star gave four HITS in year it was also Akshay Kumar way back in 1994 though a couple of them like Yeh Dillagi and Elaan were HITS due to low costs with footfalls of under 1 crore. This year has seen four films which are HITS and also grossers.

Good Newwz may well emerge a SUPER HIT but that will depend on the fall after the holiday period and what happens in the second weekend. The film could have had a higher Monday if ticket rates were held at weekend rates but there was drop in rates though they are higher than normal weekday rates. The year has ended on a good note and its a repeat of last year when the Xmas release did not do well but the New Years release did well.
