Why is Rohit calling Asim beta?

Why is he calling him beta? He's not a kid, is he trying to show that Shukla is some mahaan kalakaar in the industry whereas Asim is no one?

It's common to call someone much younger than you beta. Shukla is closer to Rohit in age so obviously he wasn't going to call him beta.

Please don't overthink such little things.
