Nowadays star power has no contribution on the success of the films, it has totally become content-based.

They do, equal star power. You make big scale films with commercial appeal and audiences will throng theatres.

Offbeat films they all get same response whether a male actor or female actor is headlining it. Of course there are a few exceptions like Aamir Khan who has built a reputation for good film (but even he delivers low money spinners like Dhobi ghat)

Manikarnika's opening made sure big budget female led ones wont be made anytime soon...

they have limited star power compared to male counterparts.

By male counterparts, I didn't mean I am comparing a number one actress with number ten male actor, it is comparison of number one with number one. So don't back at me comparing Deepika with Arjun Kapoor.

Yes, they do. To me, Sridevi is the biggest star in India that did around 400 movies on different languages within 15-16 years of her career. Khans, Bachchan or any other male superstars couldn’t do that. She had huge market when she was ruling Bollywood in the 80’s and 90’s. I don’t know why people on this forum are counting Sonam A-lister because she was never one and she will never be one. Everybody know that she lasted in the industry because of her dad Anil Kapoor and most of her movies are produced by her dad. She is the brand of nepotism. Even Abhishek Bachchan is not that nepotism. So she cannot carry a film on her own when she can’t act. Most of her movies were flop. There are many actresses that gave hit movies on their own without top heroes. Rani make Hichki and Black hit on her own. Kareena made Jab We Met hit. Vidya Balan made Dirty Picture and few movies hit on her own. PC made Fashion hit on her own. Kangana(although I don’t like her for her personal life) made Queen hit on her own. Few years ago, Kat also made some movies hit. I think all these actresses can act except Kat but I think if actresses can act very well and if the story is good, then the movie will be hit. The problem nowadays is that actresses focus so much on glamorous, not at acting. That’s why market shifted to male actors more. I think it’s the fault of all the old actors like the Khans, Akshay, Ajay and all other 50+ actors because they romance actresses half of their age and the actresses doesn’t get much screen presence. Audiences only focus on the actors on their movies and actresses can only show glamorous but it looks like the situation is changing and actresses start to take serious roles now.

No, males have bigger star power. That's why most money runs on males. It's just the way society functions across the world.

In BW history too, the kind of star status enjoyed by Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan is incompatable to any heroine. The name was enough, not even story. Dharmendra too enjoyed this.

Women stars so have star power but it's much less in comparison to the males.

SRK too well get good opening, despite his recent flops. Women stars may get a good response but it's limited and more depended on story line.

Currently Salman enjoys huge star power at BO despite crappy storyline

THIS.

People throng to watch Salman movies despite crappy storyline. At the same time, a Deepika movie may not get the same numbers, despite her being number 1 heroine.

Women never get these Masala movies which massively increase their popularity.

An example is Ranveer Singh after Simmba, better example is actually Ranbir. Ranbir has always gotten movies riding on his shoulder despite many flops. How many movies have been riding on DP’s shoulder? First of all they need to get same opportunities. Maybe if you give Simmba to PC and TSIP to Ranveer then she would have open bigger. Women always get niche movies to ride on their shoulders. How is that even fair or comparable? I think it’s time to make commercial movies for women, if they fail then ok
