Yes, I completely agree with you. Anjali was the most butchered character in the show. Though every character was butchered at some point or another, it was a close call between Payal and Anjali but in the end, I have to concede that Anjali really has to be the most shoddily written character in all the TV shows I have watched!
You are right...in the beginning, she did show a little depth, but I completely lost it for her after the kidnapping track. To be honest, I thought her completely stupid when she failed to connect the dots when Arnav displayed extreme reactions when it came to Khushi...I mean, in that scene after she tells Arnav her doubts regarding Khushi' engagement and he retaliates by saying why did she agree to the engagement then? It is not like someone forced her to or something. I mean, it was obvious that he was pareshaan...that he didn't like the fact that Khushi got engaged. And all Anjali had to say to that was Why are you speaking like this chote?! Really??!! I mean, I am bringing up the most inane of scenes but that is because you have covered most of the others in your rants 😊
Okay, leave that, She really thinks Lavanya is ASR's love? Doesn't she remember his explanation of how even if he found a girl who was capable of stopping his saans, he would stay away from her?! Then why the hell was she so upset when Arnav and La call off the engagement? I mean, shouldn't she have been the one advising her chote not to get into a life-long commitment if he doesn't feel as deeply for the girl as she obviously felt for him? Did she really think he would be happy that way?
Okay, granted that her love for her brother made her impervious to his lack of interest in Lavanya, but I can never forgive her reactions post the kidnapping track. I don't blame Daljeet for wanting to leave the show multiple times when it was airing. I mean, which sane woman would want to be portrayed like this? Come on! They didn't even bother to give her a swelling belly to imply that she was indeed pregnant!
Don't even get me started on the kidnapping track. That, to me, was the beginning of the derailment of the show. Really, all naivety aside, how the bloody hell can anyone approach a man who has been harassing you to go to your husband and tell that idiot that nothing was your fault but you had been played by the snakewa and that the snakewa had actually been the one who has been harassing you?!!! Boggles the mind that the makers actually thought of this! It is wrong on so, so many counts!!! I understand that Barun had requested for a month off but comeon!! They couldn't come up with a better track?! And the scene where one of the goons and Arnav hit Khushi on the head with that huge, motti, piece of wood?!! Who is to say some idiot teenager would not try to do the same in the hopes it would just render the girl(or guy) unconscious?
Kids(idiot ones) do imitate what they see on TV and movies. Happened once in TN where a boy killed another and then tried to hide his tracks by spreading chili powder since he saw that in a movie. Was somewhat a sensational news back home!
I don't know why a production house would butcher their own show like this, but, I think this PH is famous for it. I have tried watching a couple of other shows from this PH and have given up soon after starting because of the way they decimate the story-line and make a mockery of the characters. In spite of that, I keep coming back to this one alone mainly because of the leads and the sheer brilliance of their acting!
Phew!! Anyways, watching the show again brought back all the feelings of dissatisfaction and disappointment and I needed to rant a little too.
Like you, I missed the show when it first aired and watched it first only around three years back and didn't have a chance to rant then. The re-airing of the show on Star Utsav prompted me to watch the show again and thanks to you, I could rant out a little 😛

Thanks for your comment Sandya.
As I said before, characters of Arnav and Khushi also have flaws, but they are not as many as Anjali's.
The main problem with Anjali's character is, she is important but, she has no credible responsibilities. To keep her on the screen, she was made to do some unreasonable acts. That is why many of us disliked Anjali.

Hi Abivicky, Thanks for the comment. Even the re-watching the show or the very detailed ramblings and reminiscences are not making me feel any better about her.

Double standards for different people

Oh yes, When you look at Anjali's face when Arnav said, "Khushi is the DIL of the house and she can do anything she wants and she can go anywhere she wants", Anjali's expression was like "hey, that right belongs to me. How can you give it to Khushi?"
Thanks for the comment.

Just a correction, the post kidnap phase Anjali was written because the actress threatened to quit and it wasn't the other way around. She wanted more space on screen and she even gave IV justifying why Anjali behaves like that seeing Arshi celebration when she came to their room.
She was looking forward to being shown that way and she stayed because the makers agreed to make her the soul of the show. All Arshi scenes & redemption gone to accommodate that track.
I agree which Sane woman would be wanted to be portrayed that way. May be she knew that Indian audiences love crying women so she wanted to play that instead of a strong woman. Inorder to show Anjali the poor victim they butchered Arnav too.
There is another post on how Arnav said he loved Khushi after marriage and he married her for Anjali when she threw a fit seeing him romancing his wife.
I absolutely didn't like Nani or others telling Khushi to stay away out of Anjali's sight.

What could've been a beautiful track of Arnav's redemption. Instead we saw an ungrateful man calling the woman who saved his life a day ago his biggest mistake again based on hearsay without letting her explain or trusting her because the sister is a weak person who tried to use a scissor to kill her own baby. Who does that?

I loved how you went into minute details about the character, and somewhere down the line I do agree with almost all your points.
For me, Anjali was never a lovable character, it was more like the writers were trying to shove it down to our throat that she is a lovable one. 🤔 Somewhere I did realize that she's indeed a weak character.

I won't say that I hate her exactly but yes she was pretty much annoying and post kidnap track, her character became the most unbearable one.

Every show has such a character with whom you have high expectations but ultimately you are let down. For me Anjali was such a character in IPK. :/ I agree everyone has flaws, even Arnav & Khushi were flawed but at least their short comings weren't annoying to such a level that it made you want to pull your hair. 😳🤣

Edit- One of major discussion here is the fact that how could Anjali never understand the sheer love her brother had for Khushi, which is one of the reasons why I remain disappointed with Anjali's character. Like it was literally in front of her during Payash wedding, and remember the Teri Meri dance? Man, even Shyam discovered by then that ArHi are in love with each other but Arnav's mother-like-sister failed to realize that! 🤔

A sharp contrast in Anjali's character when it concerns Khushi.
1. She never bothered to return the sarees (lets assume makers forgot it but there were so many worth a lot to Khushi)

2. The sweets were tasted but again got spoiled at their place. Again Anjali said I'll look into it. Woman at least pay her for making Jalebis. Mami taunted saying you used our groceries but the guest were yours not Khushi's.

3. Her father was hospitalised Khushi asked if she can't pay tax later she needed the money now. Yet again Arnav goes to get Bill Paid. Again Anjali said I'll look into it. She knows they have financial issues but nope she doesn't give anything as loan.

Few days later she is openly giving money to a stranger who her husband wants to help saying My money is your money. That's Arnav's money you are using. Which self respecting person will use her brothers money after marriage.

Lets not forget the countless times she lets lavanya and Mami insult Khushi when she got Khushi by blackmailing her on AR contract without Arnav's knowledge. She could've stopped Mami since she knew Khushi was forced.

I am pissed off with Mami's vile words. I don't find her amusing at all. Arnav is probably the worst for allowing her to use such names for his wife even after he remarried her.

His logic that Mami gave her jewellery to start his business entitles her to abuse his wife ? Wow!

@renee.bee:
Wrt your previous post, I don't want to go into actors' personal choices.
But the scene which was justified is not so simple, is it?
Anjali was upset that her husband was thrown out of Shantivan. So, basically she should be upset with Arnav. Let us assume, she thought Arnav threw Shyam out because of Khushi. Then she should be upset with Khushi. But, she ended up competing with Khushi. How does that work? If Arnav ignores Khushi and shows Anjali that she is the most important person in his life, is Anjali going to be happy without worrying about her husband's guilt or innocence? Beats me.
I agree with your points in your second post. Two more points came to my mind which are not related to Khushi.
In episode 50 when Khushi was about to leave Delhi, Anjali wanted Shyam to take her to a temple. He said he can't go with her and orders Arnav to take her to the temple, because it does not look good to send Anjali alone to the temple.
There are so many flaws in that scene.
Anjali was standing right there with a pout, innocence that can beat a toddler and with a worshiping wonderment as if her husband is organizing her trip to the temple by taking time out from a life and death court case. If anybody sees that one scene, people will think that, it was Shyam's house and he was busy with his work and ordering his visiting younger brother in law who is lazing around to accompany his sister.
Arnav drives Anjali most of the times or organizes cars for her. He is a business tycoon and deposits money into his sister's personal and joint accounts. He has a business to run while his sister and brother in law stays at home and enjoy the benefits of his money.
Another scene around that episode, when Arnav over pours water into a pot, Anjali asks him whether he is happy with his decision about bringing Lavanya or not. Wasn't she the one who suggested it? Fair enough. Give benefit of the doubt to Anjali. But, later in the episode, the topic goes on to Saanse rokne wali. Anjali clearly says, when that girl comes into your life...
Does that mean Lavanya is not that girl? Then why has she even suggested to bring Lavanya to Shantivan?
All we can do is rant and scratch our heads.
Thanks for the comments.

Thanks for your comment. Anjali never understood her brother. Neither his vulnerability nor his changing equation towards Khushi.
