This is a very subjective thing and it's difficult to make a balanced view.
For sure, directors have to have the vision, the passion, the skill to bring all the actors and technicians and scriptwriters into a cohesive team. They need to plan and edit and have adequate cast.

Sometimes, even with great directing and script, if the actors are subpar in their roles, no matter how much 'push' for a movie to succeed there is, it will fail.

A weak script can be sometimes overcomed through good acting and great cinematography, superb music- good editing can also help.

No matter how good the vision, if the script or editing isn't cohesive, or the music score isn't enhancing, the film might falter in places or even be a flop, even with most successful actors.

Sometimes, even if the director is visionary, the actors are great and the script is good, choppy editing or subpar music might impact a movie negatively.

There are, of course, directors thats are in the spotlight as much as the actors. This can be because they are considered geniuses, or innovative, or have done a number of hits, or they have a specific USP to present a movie (or they are simply lucky to have great scriptwriters and cinematographers, good actors and editors, and like to take some 'shine' on themselves)..

The basis varies- how media influences the public views also matters a lot.
For some actors and directors, a lot of excuses are being supported by media and BW insiders. For others, any mistake is taking huge proportions.

In the end, it's about manipulation- how much an actor or director has 'clout' or skill to manipulate media to write positive things about them, to make excuses for mediocre movies, to single out an actor or director, to make viewers believe in their project - these things are what can turn the fate of a movie from flop to hit, or how the 'written history' of a movie will be presented.

agree with some of ur thoughts

but at the end even if its manipulation, i hope some sincere journalists defy the clout and do something that balances the scenario.
Atleast there be some start. If out of 5 artcles even if theer is one 2 hailing the director or projecting the filmas the directors or script writer movie something can change.

the manipulation, the mean ways of the big wigs, clout has to be overcomed by a section of alternate journos.

the supporting cast , the background score all added up
but at the end its only a alia film.

i feel those crew would be happy if they see articles being written about them.
they would share their achievements through social media too

but no one writes for their contribution

Some directors and scriptwriters, cinematographers deserve credit and do not get it, true.

But in this situation, re: Raazi, it's not about Meghna Gulzar and Alia ...both have done tremendous work.

The issue is that wherever Karan Johar is involved, he will make sure to highlight 'his own' .. especially nepo kids.

Someone remarked in another thread that Alia is talented but she is under the 'protection shadow' of the nepotist 'godfather' Karan Johar- I agree. No matter how good or bad she is, there will always be a suspicion she got some help (whether extra scenes, extra media push, extra..) , her scenes were author backed..that everything possible was done in order to enhance her more than anyone else in the cast.

I do understand you wanted Meghna Gulzar to get recognition, as she did for Talvar. But when Karan is involved with anything regarding his 'fave' Alia (again, someone mentioned KJo seems to push her the most), then you have to see why Meghna isn't getting mentions, although it is her vision, her direction, her team that has created the movie.

This is why the media is not making Meghna's directing as a focus, because KJo only wants to highlight Alia.

The answer is here:

Suppose at an Event, 2 ppl will walk in, who do you think Media will ask MORE to get pics?

2 Ppl - Alia & Meghna

It will be Alia the1st choice & obvious MORE one.

Majority of Ppl went to see Alia, very few who liked Meghna's earlier work came to see her work, so media picking up only ALIA to show every news is justified.

One thing is sure, no one can take away Meghna's talent by not crediting her, this is her 1st HIT of her career, while she is making films from quite a long time. This will help her in future.

Ab bhaiya, jo dikhta hai wahi bikta hai. To be completely honest, most of the casual audience knows shit about writing, direction, editing, cinematography or anything related to behind the scenes work, which goes on making of the film. The actors are the face of the movies. No one cares who is behind the camera. Audience doesn't see or care who choreographed the fight scenes, or who was the stuntman. Onscreen, they only see Superhero Bhai beating 50 goons at a time, and he becomes the action Hero for them. If anyone is to be blamed, then it's the audience. They make these actors into stars, or should I say into demi-gods and start worshipping them.

Well directors do get credit, it goes to the ones who work for it and earn it, for eg Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, David Dhawan, Raj Kumar HIrani, Farah Khan ( for some time), Aditya Chopra, and so on. Meghna has to work more and prove herself and then she will be a name too.

The music directors made their name with their hard work, so do the choreographers and the singers.
It takes more patience and time for them to be recognised as compared to actors but then they are behind the screen too.

The viewer will mostly remember the actors since they are the ones seen onscreen. Bigger share of blame for a film flopping goes to the actor and not director.

Though Talvaar brought her in limelight. All her films were critically acclaimed and small budgeted films.

But Talvaar was semi-hit and made more than expected. Raazi will indeed put her on better position to make bigger films.
