I have been saying all this for quite a long time now, I guess since the mawali track spoilers came out. But I really want to know everyone' perspective on this.
In the last two-three episodes, Sameer's VO is being continuously used to placate us viewers that yes Sameer still has his consciousness pricking him, sameer has not become the bad boy we should not like. The VO very conveniently makes us feel that sameer indeed is very guilty of the things he has done in past with his mawali friends. The boredom, the constant accusations, the monotonous life are all pushing him into this web of bad habits which he actually despises. This is what we viewers are being shown, right. But I am not able to connect to all this.
I know every teenager goes through this phase. We all face peer pressure, we all try not to look 'fattu' in front of our friends, we try to copy our friends if they are doing some supposedly cool things. But Sameer's case is different.
Sameer has had a disturbed childhood. He was in hostel since he was 5. He has practically lived his school life all alone. His mother was never there for him, his father had no interest in his personal life. He was always alone. He was always distressed. He was never into studies. I don't think he had ever planned of doing something big in life back then. Why didn't he fall into the trap of peer pressure then? The Sameer Maheshwari who was introduced to us was a carefree, bindaas, swag vala teenager. No doubt he had his share of shortcoming and bad habits (short tempered, smoking etc). But the one who left Ahmedabad was a different Sameer.
-Sameer made a bet to woo Naina. And Sameer only didn't say those three magical words to Naina when he subconsciously started realising his mistakes.
-Sameer used to make fun of Naina in front of his friends. And it was sameer only who fought with the bet boys for Naina.
-Sameer who had never even took a glass of water by himself in his Nanu's home, literally worked like a servant in Naina's house. Sabke taane sune, thappad khae, kyu? Only because he wanted Naina to smile and he didn't want his nanaji to face humiliation because of him.
-Sameer kisi ki sunta nahi tha. But apne Nanaji, Naina, Mundit ke sath reh ke he did change. He became a lot more calmer.
I won't say Nanu, Naina and Mundit changed Sameer. Rather I would say they brought out the inherent good qualities sameer always had. They let him be himself in front of them. They gave him the home he always craved for. They gave him the family he always wished for. They were the anchors which he has always needed to build his life.
I, personally have never seen such a tremendous growth in a ML's character in any Indian TV show. I fell in love with the way the makers depicted Sameer's character growth on screen. Sameer didn't mature overnight. It was a process, a process which we all enjoyed to the fullest.
Then how can a person who has learnt so much during his one year stay in Ahmedabad behave like this in Delhi? How could All the maturity, the transformation vanish?
Sameer didn't smoke -Agreed
Sameer didn't know that cards could be played without money- agreed.
But he did see his Mawali friends teasing girls, that too twice. I know he didn't tease those girls, I know he stopped his friends, I even understand that sometimes you don't do something and later regret it (as Sameer's VO pointed out). But he could have stopped hanging out with them after these two incidents? Couldn't he? The same guy who got angry on seeing some random guys pass lewd comments on seeing some stranger girls' photographs is now roaming with boys who take pleasure in teasing girls. Is there any explanation for this behaviour? Eve teasing is not a small thing, and hanging out with people who take pride in eve teasing is not acceptable to me. ( If we can forgive Sameer then we shouldn't get angry on Naina on being a silent spectator of her brother's unlawful acts)
Sameer has Nanaji's teachings with him. He has a lover who loves him unconditionally. He has friends who can do anything for him. I really don't see Sameer so called 'bigadna' natural at this stage of his life. It would have surely made sense in Nainital or even when he came to Ahmedabad. Sameer who could do anything for his Nanaji when he was alive, is now doing things which are all against his Nanaji's teachings. It all looks forced to me and it really hurts me seeing my favourite character being butchered so easily.
Comments are welcome. I would really appreciate if someone can make me see the wiseness behind this track.
Sorry for the long post.
