Yeah its slightly logic less but I am assuming that the state is not really fighting the case(then it becomes a civil case and not a criminal case) and Aanchal is fighting the case on behalf of Meenu's mother, pro bono basis.

They could have gone that way, but it wasn't argued as such.If it were a civil suit then it wouldn't be a murder case at all - it would be a case of wrongful death and Ranvir would need to be proven liable instead of guilty.
