From NagiReddy to Rajamauli; 70 years of fantasy.

70 years back, NagiReddy set up Asia's biggest studio, churned out fantasy films (Patala Bhairavi), brought out children fantasy book series Chandamama (which was later translated to many other languages).

Children read the story of a prince who was set out to release his mother who was captured by tantric. A Tantric whose life lies in a parrot in an isolated island, seven oceans away.

With advent of TV, when children lost interest in reading Indian stories and turned to Harry Potter, Telugu industry comes with Bahubali.

I do not understand Telugu. But I suppose Telugu guys are best, when it comes to telling/selling fantasy stories. Respect.

I was discussing the same thing with my dad, the other day. In earlier days, Telugu industry had a very strong Folklore/Fantasy genre. Paatala Bhairavi, Mayabazaar, Keelu gurram, Bhairava Dweepam and so many more. I always wondered why movies of this genre started to decline in Telugu for they churned out some of the most fascinating fantasy films with gorgeous music, visuals and dialogues, given all the constraints.
