Guys, I will be starting a thread with an overview of the show as well as the upcoming episodes. I will be analyzing all the characters with respect to their behadgiri. I don't intend to create any fan wars in this thread as it is not about the good and the evil. Frankly speaking, I find all the characters gray except one black character. This is similar to Junoon in DD or Sony TV years back.
Beyhadh - Hadd se zyada kuch bhi accha nahin. Pyaar bhi nahin. To say the same thing in English, Anything that exceeds the limit is not good. Not even love. Yes, it is true. In other words, too much is too bad as per the title. The word beyhadh means unlimited. In this show, everyone is beyhadh in one way or the other. Though Maya is the lead, it is not only about Maya. It is about all the characters.

Maya - Her love is beyhadh. No second thoughts about it. Since she has been craving for love all these years, she finally got one. Because of her past experience, she would not like to lose that love at any cost. People say that she is manipulative and that is the thing which is being disliked. They are right in their point of view. Having said this, I don't deny that there have been fan wars about this. fan wars are the part and parcel of the forum which will always take place and will be subject to discussion as and when we watch the episodes. However, keeping all the posts aside, I will be doing the analysis now.

What makes Maya manipulative?
No child is manipulative by birth. They learn to manipulate when they begin to grow up. A person gets manipulative either from the outside world like friends and relatives or learns from their experiences. Maya was alone since her childhood. She has a troubled family. Father greedy for money, who is uncaring and disloyal to his wife. The mother is lost in her thoughts about her husband and is under depression hoping that one day her husband will definitely come to her. So it is neither the father nor the mother who could really take care of her. On the contrary, Ashwin is very much cruel & inhuman who can to any extent to get the property even if it means to kill Jhanvi & Maya for that. Maya never had any friends as Ashwin has beaten her up in front of everyone and called her insane, thereby tarnishing her image, which isolated her. House environment is loveless. Though she could tell Jhanvi about her feelings, she hesitated to tell as Jhanvi herself was depressed. on the contrary, she had to mother her. Not that Maya has not used fair means. She might have tried them but you can take it as people used her to their advantage & dumped her. This could be one of the reasons for her transformation. For the time being, I am taking it that way.

Maya is an extreme character. But she is basically a good person minus her manipulations. She is good to those who are good to her. The examples are Jhanvi & Arjun. It is difficult to gain her trust but not impossible. Even if she gets slightly insecure, she starts finding a competitor in that person. That is the thing with her. All she needs is her loved ones should maintain the trust that she has on them. As she has never experienced true love in her life, she is as good as a baby when it comes to this. Her insecurities based on bad experiences is the cause of her psychic behavior which can only get healed by unfailing love, dedication, forgiveness for whatever she did/does, patience, and of course proper medication. She needs forget whatever has happened and understand that she cannot keep manipulating all her life.

As said earlier, it is not only about Maya. It is about all others too.

Arjun - Like Maya, he too has undergone a rough phase in his life. He lost his mother at the age of 6. That was a big shock for him. His father marrying Vandana to give her the social status has been a bigger shock for him. It is never easy to accept some other woman as your mom. That is what has happened with Arjun. He is beyhadh with respect to name, fame, & riches. He is basically the person who thinks about his convenience. He wants Maya to guide him in his career and Saanjh as a friend in need is a friend indeed. He eventually fell for Maya but he stopped Saanjh when she wanted to go to Singapore to move on in her life. This shows a classic example of his selfishness which is his beyhadgiri. But his act shows that he really loves Maya.

Saanjh - She is a happy-go-lucky and very much casual & easy-going. She is not ambitious like Arjun or Maya to make her career & stand on her feet though she was working in Malkhan/Multani's law firm as an intern who is a CLA in Fashion & The City which belongs to none other than the founder Maya Mehrotra. Initially, she was lovable but her clingy nature and chasing the person who does not care for her feelings have always been annoying to many members which include me as well. She is not as selfless as it is portrayed. Her words are very much different from her actions. It is not only Maya who is obsessed but also Saanjh. I am sorry to say that but that is what I have observed. The holy books say that all are selfish, it means that. There are no exceptions for it and Saanjh is a human being. She is not an exception. She is Arjun's best friend who spoonfeeds and babysits him. However, when it came to Arjun's most important decision in his life, he had to eventually show her the right place in a rude way which means that her friendship, as well as love, are beyhadh. Of course, it is a one-sided love. Jiten is a better match for Saanjh than Arjun. It is time for her to focus on her career and move on in her life.

Vandana - She began with a good note. She tries her best to give motherly love to Arjun but he says that she gives more importance to Saanjh than himself. That is where she falters as a mother. She has been cold towards Maya till Arjun declared his love for her and wants to marry her within a week. Till then she has always been obsessed about Saanjh. Even after agreeing for Arya wedding, she was not happy somewhere & wanted just one excuse to halt Arjun's wedding with Maya so she can insert Saanjh. If she goes by kundli, she would have dropped the idea of Saajun wedding when the pundit said the horoscopes don't match & marriage cannot take place. With respect to Maya, she wanted to reject her only because of one negativity that pundit had mentioned. So lately, her behavior is unacceptable. Yes, as a mother, she has the right to be concerned about Arjun but she is a woman first. A good elder would try to sort out their differences instead of trying to stop the wedding. She told Arjun that she will kill herself if Arjun does not leave the mandap. This shows her beyhadgiri with respect to dictatorship and her blind hatred towards Maya.

Ashwin - He is completely negative whereas all others are gray. He has been a tyrant to Jhanvi & Maya and is greedy for money and property. That is his beyhadgiri. He can go to any extent to ruin Maya's happiness. He is desperate to see Jhanvi & Maya under his mercy.

Jhanvi - She is more unpredictable than any other character in this show. Like Maya & Saanjh, her love for Ashwin is beyhadh knowing that she won't get anything from him other than pains and tortures. Sometimes she is a responsible mother and sometimes she is a dutiful wife to the person who is not worth.

Note: Though I am a Maya and Arya shipper, this thread has got nothing to do with that. Character bashing and getting personal with each other is not allowed. Please add matured contents to this thread and support me. This is my humble request.

A very good post Katrina and you have analyzed all the characters very well. You told a very important point, holy books say all are selfish. I completely agree to you. If we as human beings can accept this simple thing, we will act in a better way.
I always tell I write because I feel happy. If I dont feel happy doing it why should I do it. I feel happy when I get good comments from my readers. Comments are the biggest motivation for me to write. You need to understand whatever you are doing you are doing it for yourself. If you do good to others, that good will come to you. If you do bad, then bad will come to you.
Secondly it is not what you do decides whether the result will be positive or negative, it is how you feel when you do it decides the outcome.
That is why in SKR forum I used to tell dont assume if you do it is one plus one, instead understand the operator plus. On most occasions we forget the operator, we think it is there. Only when we get zero instead of two we realize our actions were faulty.

In that case if you see Maya and Arjun feels. Whatever they do, they feel it. If it is love, anger, hatred whatever be it, they feel it. And on most occasions they express those feelings also. If you see Maya when she is hurt, she gives snubs. She mostly shows her displeasure then and there. When the event passes she switch back from that emotion. Though Maya has a mask you can easily see underneath that.

Coming to Saanjh she does not feel what she do. She does what is expected out of her or rather what the society expects her to do so that she remains a good girl in everyone's eyes. That's why her actions and her dialogues dont match. That's why hypocrisy comes. Saanjh on most occasions doesnt realize this mis match. In that way she is genuine and intentionally this girl wont do any harm. Because she wants to be a good girl. But many unintentional mistakes can happen from her as she doesnt know to handle her feelings.

Vandana belongs to the same category as Saanjh, but unlike Saanjh she knows mostly what she is doing and believes she is right and have a right on Arjun. It will be difficult to change Vandana, while experience can change Saanjh.

One more thing you know right Cinevistaas is the PH who has taken Junoon too. It was my favourite show in 90s.

@shruthi: Your views about Maya, Saanjh, and Vandana are really apt. One cannot make progress without being selfish. However, being selfish at the cost of others life is always bad.
@Dellz: Thanks a lot.

u r right.no child is born like this.its a family circumstance which made maya like this.
even saanjh has behhad 4 arjun.but till now she hasnt tried indirect crook ways to get arjun like maya.so she hasnt gone mad in beyhad yet.but i guess in d end of the show she will turn out to be d real beyhad girl like in gupt.

i cant blame vandana completely as any mother would try to stop the wedding if she comes to know that her son is getting married to a mad girl.no mother want her son to have a mad wife.in real life life would be a mess if d wife is mad.but vandana is wrong too as she did'nt think that ashwin is not trustworthy n he was a bad cruel father..then how could she believe him blindly n try to stop d wedding?a few days back vandana told saanj that with maya's entry arjun forgot all relationships.it rly irritated me.why can't vandana remember that only bcz of maya's entry arjun accepted her as his mother?

like jhanvi's character.she looks normal n natural.any woman would want a happy life with her hus n child.this is what jhanvi too wanted.so she wanted to give ashwin a 2nd chance to have a normal life.but she was always cheated.glad that now she is willing to go against her own hus for the safety of her daughter.any woman would do that.

I agree with all your points. That is what I said she has got every right to be concerned about arjun but her ways are wrong. She believed Ashwin as she remembered only the negative aspect what the pundit said. She never looked at the positive side of what he said. One more upsetting thing is how can she believe Ashwin even after knowing what he did to Maya?

The murder mystery is going to be more interesting.

Wow what a good idea!
You are defining the beyhadhness in everyone!
In this show all the characters are flawed! Each and everyone, which is what I love about the show! I love that you can relate to each character because they're realistic and like real people they also make mistakes, not like the abla naari Bahus that jhel their mil's atyachaar lmfaooo here every character is going at their own pace, with their own wishes, with their own mentality :)
But one thing that is common amongst many characters is the dislike and Arjun and Maya as a couple. I hope ArYa are able to prove everyone wrong especially that vandana who thinks marriages are supposed to be perfect and without troubles! Lmfaoo what type of fairy tale world is she living in?!

Great character sketches! Vandana and Saanjh were quite promising and likeable initially. Both were fairly rational at one point but have lost their minds ever since Arjun got them out of La La Land and they realised he didn't love Saanjh.

This is about the much-awaited maha episode. Everyone's beyhadhgiri was evident in the show.

Maya
She locked herself in the room, holding a knife in her hand. Her hand was bleeding. She asked Lord Ganesha is there anything that has lacked in her worship that her happiness is taken away from her. I felt very bad for her. Yes, she has mental issues but she is not bad at heart though she is manipulative. people just fail to see the goodness she has got in her. Does she deserve to get abandoned just because she is not normal? The world is full of hypocrites who talk big. They only humiliate and disgrace a person who is emotionally unstable but they cannot show empathy towards that person, help them and show them the right track. Same is the case with Maya. People just make life difficult for her instead of simplifying it. In that episode, she showed the beyhadhgiri of twisting the garland which had hit the lamp that has caused the fire in the mandap. However, she was adamant that marriage has to happen at any cost. When Arjun came to the mandap, she asked the pundit begin with the rituals as she does not want to delay it anymore. Arjun though scared of Maya getting burnt was skeptical whether the marriage can take place when there if fire around. But Maya made the impossible thing possible.

Arjun
He had a fight with Saanjh in the office for the detectivegiri which had backfired her.He has been pretty rude to her but was expecting her to come for the mehendi & haldi. He was happily dancing during his wedding & never bothered about Saanjh's presence. But he had to leave the mandap because of Vandana's emotional blackmail. When Maya locked herself in the room, he told off Vandana, thereby standing for Maya but disappointed the viewers by leaving the mandap only to make Saanjh attend the wedding. He has told Saanjh ILU but that is certainly not the right occasion, though he didn't intend to marry her. Basically, he wants both his love and friendship around him. He has shown his beyhadgiri in his selfishness.

Saanjh
Was little confusing. She pulled Arjun to the mandap and told the pundit to read the mantra as she forcefully declared her marriage with Arjun. That was her beyhadhgiri. If Maya had not come down, she would have married Arjun forcefully. Though she has done a good job of uniting the lovebirds, she could not tolerate that from the bottom of her heart as she has still not removed Arjun from her mind. If she had come to the hall, she has to show some courtesy to attend the complete wedding before she leaves.

Vandana
Her hatred towards Maya is beyhadh. She had created a scene saying, kaash mere bachche ki zindagi main Maya nahi aayi hoti aur Saanjh Arjun ki dulhan hoti. She became so blind in her hatred that she forgot what Maya had done for her. She did not realize even once that it is because of Maya, Ayaan had come out of the jail on the same day and it is because of Maya(though indirectly), Arjun gave her the rights of a mother. So, it clearly indicates that Vandana wanted Saanjh as her DIL from the bottom of her heart. In Saanjh's case, she had ignored what pundit said and was rushing towards the marriage. But, in Maya's case, she comes out with her religious thoughts & the superstitions. I understand from her viewpoint that as a mother, she would not want her son to end up with the woman who is mentally unstable. She can tell Arjun once or twice but she cannot force her views on the child who has crossed his teens. Ashwin does not have any proof that Maya broke his leg but she blindly believed it. Lastly, she ended up blaming Maya in the precap when the cops took Arjun.

Ashwin wanted to say something and his finger was indicating towards someone. Everyone looked frightened. It seemed that someone had physically hurt Ashwin. But before he could indicate, he fell on the hawankund after the wedding was complete. The vengeance could still be made out in his eyes even before dying, which shows his beyhadgiri to take revenge.

Murder Mystery
In my point of view, it is neither Maya nor arjun nor Jhanvi would have murdered Ashwin. It might be somebody unexpected who might have done it. It seemed that Ashwin might have met the car accident while trying to run away from Jhanvi. Suddenly, one white car had hit him.

A suspect is innocent unless it is proved. Arjun, Maya & Jhanvi are the main suspects but nothing can be said unless it is proved in the court.

Good analysis. Thanks for the PM. Yes no one is born manipulative. Maya became this way because of her background. She had to manipulate to navigate her way in the world. She had to control to get her way, and also to make sure that people around her didn't take advantage of her. We saw from the start how highly she "Rates" loyalty. She fired that receptionist for helping Arjun and lying to her. She expects loyalty and she makes sure she punishes anyone who betrays her. The same applies for ALL her relationships and will apply to Arjun too. Someone who grew up like she did, will trust very FEW people. When she does, she will expect them to stand by her. Her way of loving is "Beyhadh" because she knows no other way. She is DEEPLY insecure and needs to be reassured constantly. This side of her only the people close to her knows. The world only knows "Confident and in control" Maya. But there is another side to her.

Saanjh grew up secure and knows who loves her. Her family has stood by her in everything. She has a Father who loves her unlike Maya. She has always been secure and happy. Never had a reason to be sad. Arjun was her friend always and she just showered love on him the same way she has had love showered on her all her life by her family. She doesn't know any other way to be. Saanjh has all the ingredients needed to be a good person and a well-balanced individual. What Maya never had in her life. Maya's lonely existence in her gilded cage was shown in contrast to Saanjh and her happy family in the earlier episodes. We clearly see the contrast between these two girls and their background and life. Saanjh's beyhadhness is her beyhadh love for Arjun and her need to always "Save" him.

Vandana. She has had a difficult time with her son. She loves him but never got his acceptance. She waited patiently and had allies in Saanjh and her family. She wanted Saanjh as her Bahu coz they have a good rapport and she was her bridge between her and Arjun. However, it was his discussion with Maya that made Arjun realize his mistake in judging Vandana. That the reason she never left was because she loved him. She could not give him the "One thing" that he wanted (his freedom from her presence) because her love stopped her. Just like Maya could not give Jhanvi the "One thing" she wanted (Ashwin), because she loves her. "Sometimes our love stops us from giving the people we love what they desire", said Maya, and finally it sank in with Arjun. He realizes his mistake. Vandana is too narrow-minded in her approach to Maya to understand that Maya DID help her and her son bridge their rift and also helped her other son Ayaan avoid a night in jail, and possibly a court case. She is so "Beyhadh" fixated on Saanjh that she cannot see beyond that. She never even wanted to give Maya a chance. All she wanted was to stop her from being in Arjun's life, or even stop the wedding. While I understand her concerns from a Mother's POV, her intolerant attitude towards Maya is grating, and also hypocritical in many ways. She dislikes Maya mainly because she is not Saanjh and that is something she can never change.

So ALL three of these ladies are Beyhadh in their own ways.
