"Saalo ne finally encounter hi karwa diya!" Gokhale said, with a twinkle in his eyes.
"Aur phir?" Shinde asked with great curiosity. Others around the table too edged closer.
"Phir kya? Ek din baad pata chala ki hum log Munna Bhai ki jagah koi Munna darzee ko khatam ki hai. Woh humare DSP sahab they humare saath. Nahi toh woh ACP ka wahi pe tai tai phiss ho jaata."
Shinde smiled and added, "Badley mein Police medal mil gaya saaley ko."
The police officers sitting around the table suddenly fell silent and jumped to attention as a door opened and ACP Randhawa walked out. He barely greeted their salutes and barked out an order to Shinde that he was going out and if the DSP called then he should be informed that the file had been sent to his office.
Gokhale looked at his departing figure and smirked at the rest. "Naya hai. IPS ban ke soch raha hai sab ko sudhar dega."
A constable looked up from his file and said, "Do din mein line pe aa jaygaa humare naya ACP."
------------------------
ACP Ranveer Singh Randhawa stood in front of Jimmy's, an outwardly dilapidated but thriving restaurant on the Colaba causeway. The place was swarming with people at this time of the day. Tourists and young college students mixed in with the drug peddlers, hitmen, pimps and prostitutes. It was business as usual. In his plain clothes, Randhawa attracted little attention though the passers-by instinctively avoided this tall man who exuded an aura of danger. One of his informers had reported that lately the place had become a regular haunt of Arun Pawar who apparently was romancing a waitress at the restaurant. Pawar was a hitman belonging to the notorious Lala gang, and Randhawa wanted to see if there was any truth to the rumour. If he could lay his hands on this Pawar, then it would be a significant start to busting the entire gang. But being new, as yet could not trust any of the officers working under him. He needed to keep this a secret until the very moment before he made the arrest. Today was merely to see if the trail was a warm one.
Stepping into the crowded room, he looked around. All the tables were full. A waiter walked up to him and said, "Sahab, you must wait. Table number 12 will empty soon."
Nodding, he allowed the boy to move on to attend a customer. A cursory glance revealed that his quarry was not there. He would wait out a while longer. He walked towards the restroom. There was a queue outside the men's room which suited him just fine. He stood leaning against the wall and kept an easy lookout on the crowd.
The door of the ladies restroom opened and a group of college students stumbled out giggling. A couple of boys standing next to him peeled off from the wall and joined them. The girls were all giggling and went ahead with the two boys in tow. However one of the girls remained behind them. The rest hadn't noticed her straggling behind. She stood right before Ranveer, leaning against the wall and heaving as if she was going to throw up then and there. No one else seemed to have noticed her yet. The girl heaved a few times, making gasping sounds as she tried to breathe. She kept taking long gulps of air but seemed to be choking. Ranveer couldn't be sure but he suspected that the girl was having some kind of bad reaction to a drug. Judging by the fact that it was Jimmy's that they were standing in, it could be anything from ecstasy to rohypnol.
As she turned towards him, he saw her face that till then had been hidden by her long open hair. Priyanka Singh Oberoi. The darling princess of the Oberoi household and the girl he had decided would be the weak link that would help him break the locks that guarded the dirty secrets hidden behind the Oberoi name.
