Speaking in an interview on Beyond the Frame with Avinash Tripathi, Rebello recalled meeting Aishwarya when she was just beginning her journey as a model. At the time, she was not the internationally known personality people recognise today. According to him, she was a simple, grounded young woman who had just started appearing in advertisements.

Their first meeting happened at Rebello’s home, where he used to conduct fittings for campaigns. The outfit prepared for her was a backless dress, something that made the young model a little unsure. She reportedly asked him if she really needed to wear such a revealing design. Rebello reassured her that the shoot would be handled tastefully and encouraged her to trust the process.

A mother’s concern and a stylist’s reassurance

Aishwarya had arrived for the trial with her mother, who was also slightly uncomfortable with the bold outfit. Rebello remembers explaining to her that advertising shoots are carefully styled and aesthetically shot. He asked them to first see how the dress looked during the fitting before deciding.

His calm assurance eventually convinced them. That moment, according to the stylist, became the starting point of a strong professional bond between them. Over time, Aishwarya developed trust in him, something that later played a key role during a major milestone in her life.

From modelling assignments to the Miss World stage

As Aishwarya prepared to compete at the prestigious Miss World pageant, Rebello helped curate her wardrobe. He designed nearly twenty chiffon sarees in vibrant shades, from rani pink and turquoise to classic black and red. His idea was simple: she should wear a different saree every morning, paired with bangles and bindis that reflected Indian elegance.
