To be honest for a family that has settled in Delhi for a long time I think that's perfectly ok , they're supposed to be quite removed from Bengali culture as it is in a lot of ways , be it their life style or diction, or day to day behavior.
My cousin bro has done his higher studies in Nepal n was studying medical in Kathmandu medical college and he's become much more attuned to the culture of Nepal than of Bengal. So I don't think any correction is needed. 😊

Well they are using Maa, Baba, Dada, so Thamma sounds more authentic.

Okay , so during the era of Mahabharat n Ramayan people didn't use to talk in Sudh Hindi do they ?? We all know Sanskrit was their language but we can't see them talking in it in tv shows because it's not practical. Thanks to different tv shows n movies main stream viewers are used to words like Maa Baba Dada , but thamma is some thing that may not sound known to them.Plus they're not making an effort to show a pure Bengali family , it's just shows that the family has retained some of Bengali culture though the younger generation of children in the house has grown up removed from contact with Bengali society. It's supposed to be a mix n match in their family , where parents are more Bengali than the kids probably they'd been to Bengal for a longer time. To be honest the Roys who are supposed to be Bengali family looked to me as non-Bengali as possible and that's perfectly logical, just like I've seen many non-bengali families appearing like almost Bengalies in Kolkata. It's just acclimatization.

For those who are not familiar with Bengali, Thamma or Thami is quite modern and contemporary. Even NRI kids call their grandma Thammi or Dida or Didun. 'Thamma' or 'Thami' or 'Dida' is not from age of Mahabharata. And Roys are shown as very much a typical Bengali family. The way the mother and grandama are dressed and the way they do slogan shouting 'cholbe na cholbe na' (which rarely happens in Bengali family) and the way the dad makes luchi aaloor dam which is typical Bengali dish so CVs are trying to portray them as an authentic Bengali family only. If they were not authentic Bengali , Sona will not use the word 'Abhadra'. It is a very typical Bengali word.I still will stick to my request of changing Dadi. NO Bengali calls their grandma Dadi. Sorry! I have lot of friends and cousins who grew up in Chittaranjan Park in Delhi. Bengalis are very proud of their language and culture. They will never use Dadi. And in every TV show we hear 'Bhabo', 'Aayi', 'Aajiamma' etc just to make it sound authentic. So why not 'Thami' or 'Didun' or 'Dida'?
