Mandavi cancels her weddingMandavi weeps at her future being cruelly snatched from her by the evil ruler Dasharath. Sita comforts her assuring her that her marriage would only happen to the person she really wanted. In the meantime, Rama suggested that Bharat go and meet her and clear his mind of any doubts.
So as arranged by Rama & Sita, Bharat went to a spot to meet Mandavi, so that the 2 could clear things up.
B: Rajkumari...
M: Boliye...
B: Rajkumari, first I'd like to apologize for both the mishaps that I caused b/w us
M: Okay...
B: The other thing - I know that my father asked for your and your sisters' hands to me and my brothers...
M (seething & almost in tears): I guess...
B: I wanted to check whether that's really what you wanted
M: No!!! I'm really upset about it, for 2 reasons...
B: What are they?
M: 1. Janak is my uncle, not my father. Your father should have asked my father for permission, if that was what he wanted.
B: And what was the other?
M: 2. I have dreams of my own. No offense, prince, but you are not in them. So I don't really appreciate being asked to marry you and make your palace my sasural.
B: I had a hunch that that might be a possibility
M: Possibility? I am the eldest princess of Saamkaasha. If I marry anyone, it should be someone who's either king of a kingdom, or a yuvraj. You are neither. Marrying you would be a pratiloma marriage. How could your father even dare bring this up?
B (now slightly annoyed): He is the ruler of Ayodhya and the head of the Raghus, that illustrious dynasty, that's how.
M: Oh, the dynasty where Harishchandra sold his wife? The dynasty where he wanted to sacrifice his son? The dynasty where Asamanja drowned babies just for the heck of it?
B: First was being tested. Second was disinherited and exiled. But never mind - since you don't think much about my family, I'll go ahead and ask my father to withdraw the request
Mandavi heaves a sigh of relief as Bharat leaves.
Bharat then goes to meet Dasharath and asks him to inform Janak & Kushadwaj that he is not interested in marrying Mandavi. Rama asks him why and Bharat narrates their exchange. Accordingly, Dasharath sends a message to Janak notifying him that he'd welcome Urmila and Shrutakirti into the family, but not Mandavi.
The news spreads to the palace and Sita is shocked. She approaches Mandavi and asks her what happened?
M: Didi, I did what you told me. I went and met him, and didn't like him. So I let him know that I wasn't at all comfortable marrying him
S: Okay, if that's how you feel, you made the right decision
Mandavi's mother (Q), as well as Maharani Sunaina (R) then entered and asked
Q: Mandavi, what's this I hear?
M: Ma, I met prince Bharat, and he was just not my type. So I let him know that I'm not interested in marrying him
Q: Are you mad? The main goal of any girl is her suhaag. We've found 4 great princes for the 4 of you, and you 4 would have remained together after marriage, but you had to spoil it
M: Ma, I don't like him
R: Okay, in that case, we won't arrange your wedding. As it is, Maharaj Dasharath has withdrawn his request for your hand.
M: Ma, can I have a swayamvar?
Q: Not anytime soon - for now, you have to work in arranging your sisters' marriages and farewells.
M: Okay, Ma, I'll do that.
Mandavi then joins Sita, Urmila and Shrutakirti and starts teasing them about getting married 😆
U: Didi, you forget - you too are getting married.
M: Nope, I'm out. Maharaj Dasharath released me
U: Why, didi?
M: B'cos I wanted the opportunity to tease not just Sita didi, but ALL of you about getting married. So this was the ideal tack.
Sita, Urmila and Shrutakirti are horrified, while Mandavi chuckles and heads for the haldi preparations for the other 2.
