Mareech deer takes refuge in SitaAfter Ravan & Akampana confronted him, Mareech rather sheepishly, or deerishly, transformed himself into a beautiful golden deer and decided to go to the ashram.
Thinking to himself, 'Ravan will kill me if I don't go, and Rama will kill me if I lure him away, so what do I do?' Saying this, he approached the ashram.
Sita was overjoyed to see him, and so was Lakshman, whose dream was realized. Rama smiled, but noted that something looked familiar about the deer.
The deer approached the entrance of the ashram, and Jatayu, seeing it, decided to prey on it. The frightened deer just ran forward and bumped into Sita
V: Jatayu, this deer has taken refuge in me. Please don't hurt him. My husband will make you something. Swami, can you make him a jackfruit preparation?
So Rama & Lakshman took a jackfruit and started preparing something for him, but Jatayu relieved them and started gnawing on it, saving them the trouble ๐
Mareech was in the meantime unsure on how to continue, but nuzzling himself against Sita looked like a good idea, and indeed the safest place ffor him. So he rested his head on her feet.
M (to himself): This is a great idea - why didn't I think of it earlier? With this approach, I needn't do anything wrong, and Lankesh can't do a thing to me, since Rama & Lakshman are around.
Saying this, Mareech happily rested himself on Sita's legs, and Sita happily started petting it like it was her long lost puppy. Lakshman too joined. ๐
In the meantime, Ravan, who was watching this from a distance w/ Akampana, was livid that Mareech had double crossed him.
L (Lankesh): Akampana, go there in another disguise.
A: Another deer, Lankesh?
L: Might not be a good idea. Sita has got a beautiful deer already, why would she even look at you?
A: How about as a golden tiger? Then I can go and eat Mareech
L: Good idea. Off you go
So Akampana turned himself into a golden tiger, and approached the ashram, letting out a roar. Mareech trembled in terror, and Sita turned to Rama
V: Swami, this deer is terrified. Can you hunt this tiger and get me its skin? It will be a fine rug for Mata Kaikeyi or Bharat. Normally, I don't like killing animals, but this one threatens this deer, so go ahead and get me its skin.
Akampana started to run off, and Rama followed. After a while, Rama fired an arrow, and Akampana cried out
A: Oh, Lakshman!!! Save me
Hearing this, Sita urged Lakshman to go and save Rama. Jatayu however had another idea
J: Sita, Lakshman's suspicions are right. Why don't I go and pick up Rama and bring him back? Then, if he really is injured, you can tend to his injuries
L: Bhabi, yeah, that's a great idea.
B4 Sita could say anything, Jatayu took off. He spotted Ravan at a distance, but flew straight to Rama, who was standing next to Akampana's body
R: Jatayu, I think Akampana was put up to all this by Ravan
J: Raghunandan, I saw Ravan on my way here. Let me take you to him
So Jatayu took Rama and followed the same path he had seen Ravan in.
In the meantime, Ravan, hearing Akampana's cry, knew that he was killed, and was furious at Mareech. So he approached the ashram and tried attacking Mareech. First he took the form of a golden lion, but Lakshman quickly fired some arrows that injured him and Ravan regained his original form.
A furious Ravan then started firing his arrows @ Mareech, but Lakshman intercepted them. Ravan managed to wound Lakshman, and was threatening Mareech, but Sita took the form of Kali and confronted him. However, since Ravan was invincible against all gods, due to Brahma's boon, Sita's attacks had limited effect. She however took Mareech in her arms and protected him
Then Rama arrived there w/ Jatayu & saw Lakshman injured. He asked Jatayu to tend to Lakshman's injuries, while he confronted Ravan.
A fierce battle then started b/w Rama & Ravan. Sita, Lakshman, Jatayu & Mareech watched Rama in admiration
